Fresh Direct is seriously a godsend when I don't feel like dealing with Keyfood or C-Town (so if Pricerite is kinda like those, I'll be fine.) Glad to know there are some options.

I forgot to mention that if you're a UB student, Wegmans (grocery store) give you free food. You show your ID to customer service and I believe they give you a coupon book of some sort.
There really aren't any traditional grocery stores within the neighborhood, but there is a tops and wegmans not far north of it, maybe a mile or two. They're both on, or not far off, the 20 bus line
( ... )
The cab thing sounds like it will be very do-able. It's just going to be me, a kitty, and the boyfriend every now and again.
Another question - are there any ethnic groceries in the area? Asian/Latino/Indian? Or am I going to have to resign myself to Toronto to find specialty stuff?
There are definitely some Latino places on the West Side. Italian on the West Side and North Buffalo. Middle eastern/Halal here and there throughout the city. There may be an Asian place on the west side, the Vietnamese population there isn't insignificant, but I don't know of any offhand. Maybe by UB somewhere, too, since there's a substantial number of foreign students from Asia studying there. I don't know of any Indian place in the city, but there are some in the burbs. There was one near Sheridan and Eggert I think.
When I was at UB (4 years ago), there was a shuttle bus that went from North Campus to Wegmans and Tops, it was free, though sometimes not entirely punctual so if all else fails and you have an easy way to get to and from North Campus, you can look up the shuttle schedule and get your groceries that way. Actually, they probably do a shuttle from South Campus as well.
Don't bother with the shuttles that take you places outside of the two campuses - they suck horribly.
They only run Wednesday afternoon/evenings and on Saturdays. They stop at Ellicot (the north campus dorms) and go to the Boulevard Mall and Tops and Wegman's (the ones across from each other on Maple). They are never on time and generally tell you to get on another bus even though you say you want to go to the grocery store/mall. Not a worthwhile experience, plus the hours for those days are really restricted.
If you like meat there is a butcher that delivers! Granted, you have to order like $60 worth of (decent)meat and pay $5, but when you order the meat packages you usually get a free dozen eggs. Poke Steve's Meats when you get to town. My roomate and I usually order $80-$90 worth of meat every 4-6 months and hav it delivered cause she's legally too blind to drive and I should not be allowed to operate heavy machinery ever.

I'm sure there are asian markets along Elmwood or on the west side.
