I called. The man at the desk was very polite and said he would pass it on to the senator. I hope that helps.

Just so I'm clear on this, the bill is for the support of gay marriage and not against it like Prop 8, correct? We wanted to say no to Prop 8 and yes to this bill, right?

I don't support any kind of marriage, but I do feel that everyone should have the equal right to make horrible mistakes.

I'll call the dude.

I wish they were having this as a popular vote rather than one by our legislators.

yes, that would be great if we could vote on everything. then we could get rid of the legislator (and our own jobs) and spend every day at the polls!

Certainly, we can't vote on everything. This is a state's rights issue that can easily be added to an election the way California did it. And I do think we could do without as many legislators. The layers of government to handle similar things is staggering. In education alone we have federal, state, and city or district administrators all doing similar things without much coordination.

this being a state's rights issue has nothing to do with letting the populace vote. california's prop 8 was a voter initiative to add something to their constitution. that is not what this is. this is a executive/legislative move to fix something in the general statutes. i have no idea what the process for amending the NY constitution is, but let's hope it's more significant than a simple majority initiative process.
