Maybe I don't suck ...

Dec 07, 2008 09:12

So I had spent a really long time making something special for Saturday's breakfast.
It came out horrid and now I have a huge pot of inedible goop. I was really pissed off and upset.
Not only about the waste of ingredients, but the amount of time and effort. BLAH!

Today I watched this video and I feel all better! XD

Martha is the best!!

I was making congee. I made pressure cooker chicken broth so I could have home made broth (thought it would be better than water, and also I am obsessed with the chicken soup from that dim sum place in Pasedena) and chicken to put in it. I should have left well enough alone, but I misunderstood Jacki's commment about the rice and having read some moron's suggestion to use a stick blender, basically blended it into glue. I still ate it! The flavor was good, but Jacki couldn't eat it and I made enough for a small army. I was quite pissed off with myself!!

Now if only someone was looking to hang wall paper with chicken flavored glue...

LOL! I mis-read your comment and saw Pot-O-Poop instead of goop XD

Haha!! Martha said "hairy balls"!!! LOL

If it makes you feel any better, I've got a loaf of sourdough rye raising in the boiler cupboard and I'm pretty sure it's going to fail. I did the starter myself (first time) and that went ok, but the bread didn't rise very well(even though I left it an extra day) and I may have added a bit too much water to the dough...it does smell pretty sour though.

Oh and I turned mashed potatoes to glue with one of those stick blenders once. Anyway, of course you don't suck! We all eff up now and again! :-D

Haha hairy balls! Oh that Martha :D

I'm going to keep my fingers x'd for that sour dough! I've never had homemade sourdough but I can almost imagine how wonderful it is. You sound like me though, lots of worries (too much water etc).

Jacki's done the glue potatoes with the stick blender too. I'll pretty much eat anything made from potatoes tho! haha I know I shouldn't be so hard on myself :P

My suspicions were correct. The bread was an epic FAIL. As a matter of fact it's so bad that i can't get it out of the tin...it's stuck in there like glue!

LOL @ "epic FAIL"! That's so weird, you'd think it would at least come out of the tin, even though it didn't rise :P What a pain in the ass. Sorry Carmen *bread hugs*

Ah, Leah, I'm sorry about the pot of goop! The last time I cooked, I burned the Turkey schnitzel (funny, that! hehe). It had been so long since I'd made it, I forgot to turn down the heat and the breading was blackened before the center was even heated :-( Like yours, it tasted good, but wasn't much for presentation! M and I both ate it anyway. :-P

Haha! That was hilarious! It's good to know that even Martha isn't perfect all the time. :D

The last time I made Halloween muffins (or attempted to make any ways), I did everything as I do normally and once the muffins had stayed in the oven for their allotted time, they looked and smelled wonderful... except that they were totally raw in the middle! I had to put them back into the oven, and this resulted in burned tops, dry sides & bottoms and barely cooked centers. I couldn't eat the things I was so disgusted with them, but J. bravely ate a few. I still don't know what went wrong.

Oh, and I've made potato glue too. It usually happens when the potatoes are of the wrong kind; the sort that are good for boiled taters don't make good mash, and turn into glue instead. You need to find a potato that's mealy and sort of crumbly to get non-sticky mash. :)

yep, that's how I learned about different sorts of potatoes, the hard way! ;-)

It's our stupid ovens always trying to lie to us, I swear! Hey at least J ate some :D

I recently learned about that potato thing too. I have to admit to using the mealy kind for everything until a few years ago XD

I don't know why I'm so anti-Chihuly, but I reaaaaaally enjoyed Martha smashing that ball XD
It was great seeing you and your mom at UCR and hugs to little Rubin, I hope he's able to walk again soon!!
