I have learned the hard way. I spent way too many years trying to please everyone, even as a manager I never wanted to be the bad guy which caused me to not be honest with people when they needed to be instructed otherwise, and to play company games and not tell my employees to bail while they can which caused them to hang on with hope until we let them go.

I will never do that again - well, I say that now, but something that is soooo much a part of who you are isn't that easy to change - we're in the same boat, you and I.
