Recently, I've been in contact with some of the local Mormons. There are two of them: an Elder Cruz, an immigrant from Mexico, and his companion in the holy life, the serene Elder Nichols. Yes. That was the point. Acting with renunciation isn't whether or not one wears robes or a suit, acting with compassion for all beings is what a renunciant does. This is Theravada. To my knowledge, the Mahayana holds that this is the path that can culminate in Supreme Buddhahood. Someone who knows better than me would be welcome to chime in here as this isn't an area I'm even remotely familiar with.

As above, "How is one truly compassionate for all beings? It is delight in non-harming."

This is something anyone can do.
