Why I am no longer a vegetarian:

Dec 27, 2007 02:23

I had not eaten any kind of meat for about 3 and a half years until a week ago when I had a dream in which I was eating meat, and very much enjoying it. I awoke from the dream wondering why I was feeling that way, and before I could get a chance to consciously ignore my subconscious desires, as I sometimes tend to do unfortunately, I stayed in my ( Read more... )

If I was starving I'd renounce my vegetarianism. I also renounced it when I traveled in parts of the world where you eat what comes out of the one pot or you eat nothing. I could say I have a vow to not eat wheat/gluten as it makes me very sick and will kill me eventually. And I would probably rather starve for a long time than eat gluten. Yet I will renounce a vow if I have to, but they're limited circumstances where it will be useful to my survival or the well-being of others and that's all hypothetical conjecture. Nonetheless vows are useful. Some people want to be attached to non-attachment but I don't see vows that way and I kind of hope you don't either. I have no idea if you do or don't, but if you don't want to be vegetarian don't be. I didn't for quite a while recently and really enjoyed eating sushi again, but now the dioxins, heavy metals and the damage we've done to the oceans and their ecosystems stop me. Eat whatever. Haha, actually the cannibalism comment amused me! Truth is, I'm not free of all vows (DUH) since most I may not even be aware of as it's simply become my behavior, but I do someday hope to reach the point where I only have one rule that dictates all my actions in life: To do what it is at the moment that I feel I want to do. And so maybe one day, I may >gulp< one day want to eat another human.. then..

You know, it's becoming almost every other day now that I realize I'm not quite as open-minded as I think I am..
