Sounds to me like you don't have real friends by my definition of the word. If you sit around insisting on ridiculously sober and uber-controlled standards for your friends and the people who surround, you and your friends must be boring as shit, and the place you come from must also be boring.

In my world, friends dive into the pool of risk, uncertainty, intoxication, and adventure with one another, and we have no shame or fear about it. You call that unhealthy? That's because your idea of "healthy" is anything but. Your idea of "healthy" probably has white tile and antiseptic walls.

Paranoia is just reality on a finer scale. You should be paranoid about people you don't know. If you don't think so, you haven't lived long enough yet.

As the old Zen saying goes: "Even moderation needs moderation."

I was just discussing this with someone else- there was a time when a model of alcoholism was created in which it was envisioned as a "disease". But in reality, alcoholism is a behavioral problem, and it is driven partly by the mechanism of addiction, for some. It is not a "genetic" thing; you are not more likely to abuse alcohol just because you come from a father or a mother who did. A parent who drinks doesn't have their genes warped by the Vodka into creating an "alcoholic" human in the womb ( ... )

Gosh, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree with me throwing in the caveat that your respect for abstainers is predicated on bad ground.
