The kid showed him a different way to get through the muck without exposing himself, and didn't put undue strain on his shoulders. They passed under the security fence through a culvert (in which Kirk explained they were in a sewage trench, much to Leonard's delight) and made it out to a forested area. Kirk made them roll in some dead leaves for camouflage, and they slowly and covertly made their way to where the trees appeared thinnest. It was there that a team of hostiles jumped them, guns out, paintballs whipping through the air around them. They were out-manned and definitely out-gunned, but with Kirk's shouted instructions, they managed to get twenty yards away before either of them were struck. Leonard went down when he felt the shot hit his shoulder, stars bursting in front of his eyes as he hit the ground, but Kirk hauled him to his feet

They became regular partners in the class, and Jim was able to rearrange things in such a way that they made sense to Leonard's mind. Certain take-downs, tactical scenarios and diplomatic situations had been difficult to process until he got it from the Kirk Perspective. In that week, Kirk had become Jim, the class had become bearable and he suddenly had a regular resident on his couch. His dorm room had become their after-class clinic, Jim usually needing a patch job for something that had somehow started bleeding or been sprained

“To us,” Jim said regally, holding the snifter of brandy like it was a flute of Dom Pérignon. "We did it!" Leonard clinked his own glass against Jim's and they both drank deeply. It had been their last simulation, and while Jim had received top marks (which was completely expected, as Leonard had learned), Leonard had been surprised with a decent mark. The best part of all, of course, was the fact that they were done

This fill is Love! Especially the last part, where Bones was afraid Jim didn't really want to be friends, and the relief he felt when it was all ok :-) Really, really good stuff.

Oh my god! Some of those conversations could be completely innocent and Spock or someone overhearing and getting the wrong idea. It would be hilarious. I love the first and the last one the most! I've actually had that conversation with my bf.
