When is it the time?

... or when was yours?

I'm thinking a lot about it lately, but not in a negative and stresses way. How and when can I tell my family and friend about who I am? I do want to get to know other gays and lesbians, but that include being open with my friends around. For my family, honestly, I see no need to tell them yet.. my parents at least. For the rest of my entourage, the only question left is when and how?

My best piece of advice is this: don't force yourself to tell anyone when or if you're not ready.

If and when you do feel ready to tell someone, I'd start by just telling one or two people, preferably really close friends, ones you're pretty sure won't care one way or another. Take it slow, don't rush it. (I know that it can be kind of scary.)

It's definitely easier to tell friends than it is to tell family, usually because your friends are your own age, and younger people, on the whole, seem to be more 'okay' with the idea of homosexuality (as they should be!). So take it easy, let your friends know (again, when you feel ready to), and take some time to just see what it's like to be out to some people without being out to everyone you know.

Trust me, the Gay Police aren't going to come to your door and force you to do it. :)

Fiew, that was my biggest fear. *Unlocks his bedroom door* ;P

Thanks for the advice. Off topic: that makes me think, I should read your book...
