post-Katrina

Didn't really want to post on Katrina, since much of what is going through my mind has already been said. Yes, it's a gigantic disaster, and everyone seems to have been hit with just how big only afterwards. And it will take many people years to put their lives together, especially if they didn't have insurance. And it's weird to think about ( Read more... )

Oracle should be sorry, you're doing it on their time :)

You're right. I should ease off LJ. :)

funny, how the date is today. Actually, more than funny, more like outright lying by the site you linked.

What are you talking about? The dates everywhere are March 26, '05. What lying?!

Yes, the guy is a former official, but a DIRECTOR is not someone who has no contacts left at the agency. He know what's going on a LOT better than any of us possibly can.

As for the money diverted to other projects, sorry, but everyone is saying that the money have being diverted to ONE project -- the ridiculous war in Iraq and "war on terror". No, FEMA is not saying it was "Big Dig". It is saying that it was Iraq. It's Bish's fault.

But, again, locals were certainly not prepared and did not have workable plans. Going door-to-door and loading people onto busses and trains out of the city instead of just saying: "Please, leave the city by your own means" could be done on the cheap.

The Herald-Tribune link says Sept. 2 on top. If I misunderstood the date, oops. That is not my major point, however. Former anythings say all sorts of things. And that's not my point either. My point was about the lack of planning with current resources by local officials, period.

Oh, and "everyone" is a rather wide term, no? Money to hurricanes may have been partially diverted to terrorism prep. Isn't that what some people were complaining about, all the new precautions that are unfunded? Well, there you go. And why do you put "war on terror" in quotes? Or is terrorism not real?
