Troy Bolton watched as the ball swished perfectly into the neat. He ran to catch the ball as it bounced against the cold pavement. He lined himself up at the three-pointer line and shot the ball, once again going in with ease. The night was semi-warm, it being Florida and all. Troy was hadn’t been a way from home in a long time and it was starting to get to him. He was excited when receiving news that he was being invited to a very prestigious basketball camp in Florida. The assistant directors at the camp told Troy that he would get a chance to train and play with teenagers his age and younger from all over the country. Troy was very excited about this, but soon found himself missing home more than he intended to. Sure, he missed his parents, best friend, bed and game system. But he missed her more. His girlfriend, Gabriella Montez.
He knew that he was going to miss her when he left, but never expected for it to be as strong as this. Troy found himself thinking about her more and more as time went on. He even called Gabriella more than he did his parents and Chad. He and Gabriella had only been dating for a five months and yet he was head over heels in love with her. They never actually exchanged the words, but Troy knew that it was there. He saw it every time she looked and him and was sure that he mirrored that look when she was around. Troy wondered what Gabriella was doing and if she was missing him just as much. He had a strong feeling that she was.
Troy shot the ball once more, running after it when it dropped from the neat. It was late in the night and Troy found himself unable to sleep. Half because of the big camp playoff game and because he was thinking so much about his girlfriend. He hadn’t talked to her in over a week because someone snuck in the girls cabin across the camp and got everyone’s phone’s taken away. Now everyone was to use the payphone in the hallway, and Troy was going broke from all the quarters he’d been using to call Gabriella. Troy shot the ball a little too hard and she watched as it rolled away into the distant. He walked over to the bench and sat down, resting his face into his hands.
Just as he was doing this the figure of a very petite girl, came tip-toeing out of the bushes. She threw the ball towards the neat, but it fell with a hard thud against the ground. Troy’s head shot up, squinting to see the person better in the soft moonlight. When he saw who the person was, Troy ran to her, hugging her tight so that she didn’t disappear.
“I guess that means you’re happy to see me, huh, wildcat”. Gabriella giggled softly in the night air. Troy missed he giggle and the way she said his nickname, one that she gave him.
“More than happy”, Troy smiled, leaning down to kiss her lips softly. He missed the feel of them against his. “What are you doing here anyway?”.
Gabriella giggled again, picking up the basketball rolling towards them. “Taylor saw how miserable I was without you and plan this whole thing”. she walked over to the neat and shot the ball. “What about a game of one-on-one”.
“Brie, that would be so unfair to you”. Troy smirked.
“Well, them you wouldn’t mind playing against me”. Gabriella held the ball that she retrieved on her hip.
Troy shrugged. “You’re on, Montez”.
Gabriella laughed, throwing off her jacket. “Show me what you got, wildcat”.
Troy and Gabriella played against each other in the nights air. Moving across the court and making multiple points. Neither stated the number they were going to so they both continued to play without a care. Troy knew that they were going to be doing the second bed count soon but he really didn’t care. All he wanted to do was play basketball with his girlfriend in the moonlight. Troy was getting ready to make a shot, blocking Gabriella as he did so. She tried her best to snatch the ball but couldn’t, so in one swift motion, she leaped on his back. They both laughed as Troy fell into the grass surrounding the outside basketball court.
“That was fun”. Gabriella smiled, looking up at the stars as she tried to regain normal breathing.
“I really missed you”, Troy admitted softly.
“I did too. Hence, why I’m here”. They both laughed.
Gabriella looked over at Troy to see that he was staring at her. “What?”.
Troy didn‘t think before the words came out his mouth, although he meant them. “I love you”.
Gabriella turned back to the sky then to Troy. She opened and closed her mouth not knowing what to say. She leaned over to him and captured her lips with his. They shared a long passionate kiss before Gabriella pulled away.
“I love you too”.
