spent the first full day skiing (snowboarding) at vail today. the place is huge. spent most of the time on the "back bowls", which is where on the reverse side of the mountain a series of large concave curves each lead into respective basins (like a piece of a bowl), and the runs go down at various angles. china bowl, the one i mostly did, tends to ( Read more... )

So, when I surf I am "goofy footed" as you call it - but I'm guessing this is different when snowboarding. In short-boarding, we often have to quickly shift the board to keep with a wave, and I'm trying to think of how you could create the equivalent of that motion if your medium is static... and my brain is only thinking of the whole body motion that involves mostly the core with the kick off and weight shifting. I'm guessing it's just something you'll have to just pick up with practice?

the medium is less static than you think. good form gives you better control over moving the board from side to side, as i realised especially on mogul fields.
