Hello! I got back yesterday, but I've been too lazy to make a post. Still am, actually, so this is gonna be a short one. It was a really nice trip. No, it's not just you. :) I think there's always been more NSYNC writers than Backstreet. This is a complete shot in the dark, but I think maybe it has something to do with the fact that most of the fandom is US based, and NSYNC was more popular in the US than BSB was. I don't really know though. It's always been a mystery to me, too. Plus it's sad, because if writers would give BSB a chance, man, then I'd be a happy camper.
