I think you guys really have the right line with the friend memes and the ship posts, and even the tour coverage, but you should definitely encourage more member posts. ...Not that I'd have anything to contribute, but back when the initial bigtimerush comm started, people (all kinds of people) would post candids of the guys and tour pictures and fic and all kinds of shit- it was like tumblr, without the reblog buttons and more discussion. I kind of went over extensively where btr (the comm, not the band) went wrong with fever_play a while back, so I won't get into it again, but basically I think you guys just need more promotion and member involvement. I mean. Being a fun comm isn't a bad thing in my book, but I know a lot of people who are not so much with the silliness.

Also, you shouldn't discourage fic. The palmwoods is a fantastic comm, but it's kind of been monopolized by certain authors, and I feel like that discourages new authors from posting things. They're more likely to keep it to Tumblr or ffn or just ELSEWHERE. I get that people

Not to mention that palmwoods is only slash. Which is great! But I think that makes it hard for people who want gen and het to feel welcome. Not because anyone is ever rude or *unwelcoming*! But if it appears that that's all there is, people will assume there's no interest in other things.

Right? I clearly remember that there used to be some degree of het swimming around at the beginning of fandom- but most of it was posted to btr! And there used to be a lot more comment!fic. Now everything's just splintered and I cry into my margaritas.

THIS! I am to James/Katie (and the James/Katie/Jett triangle) what you are to James/Camille and I don't post to the Palmwoods because it's not slash. I do post to BTR but it doesn't really function like a fic community so I feel like my posts get lost there.

THANK YOU for your feedback. Especially as a mod, I'm sure you're aware of all of the effort it takes to keep a comm up and running. I will try to further encourage every kind of member posting. I'm still wary about fic, because I'd very much like this comm to not turn into a so called "drop box for certain genres" as you put it. I have been hoping to create a space in which all ships eel welcome, however, with having both a het and threesome ship spotlight so far, and asking if people ship, not assuming they do, because they might prefer Gen, but I'll try to be more sensitive to that in the future as well

The things that I don't want to lose are episode discussions, ship spotlights, and wtf wednesday. Those days are personally the most fun for me as a mod and a member. I love reading the discussion people have over ships and episodes, and to be honest I just love being able to post something every Wednesday that doesn't fit into any other category besides WTF IS THIS.

I really do want everyone to post. Maybe if we could hand off weekly posts to members, to allow you all to post one day of the week instead of the mods. We could have some kind of sign up for which day everyone wanted, and then let you post basically whatever the hell you wanted. Maybemembers would feel more comfortable posting since those posts are already sort of set, instead of posting into some kind of dark abyss where only mods usually post. I don't know. If anyone is interested in doing one (or more) of the weekly posts next week or any time in the future, let me know. We'll work something out.

I could get on board with this! Are you familiar with spn_roundtable? They do this thing where they sort of "comission" a member a month to post for say an "ask the artist" or "ask the author" or "theme fic rec" type deal. I think that would be cool. To have a member a month that participates in that way. And then for regular membership posting we could...idk, I think the sign-up for days thing could be good, but only if people participate and aren't afraid to get in there and just go. The only reason we post everyday really is to keep active and keep up discussion, but if everyone did it all the time without us there'd be less importance put on the mod-posts, they'd just be another post, y'Know? That's the goal right?
