Goals

So, I've recently realized that I have been cruising through life with out any real goals, in high school my main goal was get into college, then in college it was have fun and get into graduate school, in graduate school it was get the hell out of graduate school as soon as possible.  While this step wise look at life has worked for me so far, I'm ( Read more... )

You could always kill two birds with one stone and have kids so that when they make a positive, lasting change on the human race (or one of their kids do, etc) -- you've made one by creating that person :-) Or at the very least, you'll cover your bases in case you don't!

The problem with your suggestion is that it requires me to live vicariously through my children, which tends to be the norm I don't necessarily agree with, and am defiantly not willing to rely upon. Children would be nice at some point though, I tend to put them more into the family category rather than positive lasting impression on the human race.

I'm also not suggesting you live vicariously through your children, which I agree is not the best thing. Don't push them to do anything or base your own life happiness/goals on them ... but see them as an aspect of your positive lasting impression.

Oh yes I absolutely agree with you there, and that is one of the reasons I want a family, but again, I am looking for ways that I can personally have a positive lasting affect on humanity. Though I do appreciate your input.
