My school didn't require 1984, but I read it anyway (even have a copy of it in German). I've read Animal Farm & Burmese Days. Homage to Catalonia is around here somewhere. Anything else we should read by Mr. Orwell?

I've always heard 180, 1981 as the cutoff for Gen X.

With all the great literature available, I don't have time for more Orwell. I adored 1984, but Animal Farm was marginal for me. I have accepted that Orwell's ideas are far greater than his writing. Huxley is similar and Farenheit 451 is even worse.

I may be one of the few who can appreciate the cameras. Of course I devoured those sci fi, the-future-is-doomed stories when I was growing up and could always picture myself chugging along, wearing my little communist uniform updating records at the ministry.

I must admit that I was assigned both 1984 and Animal Farm in high school but I didn't like reading fiction so I don't remember much of either book. I very much want to see "V for Vendetta" perhaps even this weekend.
