I've never been into non-canon pairings because I have a hard time suspending disbelief (wish I could get past that!). But this one really feels plausible, both in the overall situation and the characterization itself. I could really believe this kind of future for Sam and Lee, and you really sold their relationship. Plus, the writing was beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with us!

I flip-flop on my ability to believe/enjoy non-canon pairings, but I definitely sympathize. Sam/Lee has definitely entered my personal fanon permanently so they get a little (okay, a LOT) more leeway. I'm really pleased it seemed plausible and authentic to you too. I love this, J, love it so hard I can't come up with a decent way to express it. You say so much with so little -- I adore it when I encounter writing like this, lyrical and understated in its brilliance, so in character and so believable.

He stays for Lee. And for her: Kara's daughter. He stays, keeping their frakked up little family together with a singleness of mind and purpose only a machine could achieve. Not a force in this or any other world that could stop him.
