The relationship with Caprica and Gaius makes me GRIN when I read it here. You have done a wonderful job capturing that particular Caprica viewpoint on life. I want to protect her at the same time I want to give her what she wants. (LOL - yes! I personify characters.) As always, your language makes me sigh. What a beautiful story! Bravo! K :)

Hee, I was just reading your remix when I got this! I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER that it gave you Caprica-protective feelings. XD Thank you so much for the lovely response!

I'm just getting back to read the rest of the remix fics!

I was thrilled to be given a sneak preview of this. I felt a little bad that my beta consisted basically of saying, "Wow, this is really good!" but it really was. Utterly compelling, utterly them, and so full of hope and peace at the end.

There are so many lines here where you really get Caprica and/or Gaius in ways that stop me dead for a moment. Here are some examples:

or just a vague state of panic and pleading that spiraled out of the first event;

Wow, this is such a spot-on description of how Baltar experienced the entire series. :(

You were a light sleeper on the baseship; the slightest touch then could make you jerk upright.)Ouch. You can just hear her guilt in that sentence. The sense of Baltar's terror implied in those lines is so affecting ( ... )

Thank you for the comment!! And you did help so much as a beta, believe me. :)

I realize especially with you mentioning certain lines, that something I came back to a lot in this fic is the fact that Gaius is a deeply traumatized person through a lot of the series. And I think really acknowledging that would cause her a lot of guilt.

It's such a ironic way to refer to it, and yet also romantic and even ethereal, much like Caprica herself.
Glad that idea worked! :) It's romantic in a totally off-base way but also an admission of the fantasy of it, I think.

Thanks again, anything that causes feelings especially of the wanting-to-hug-Caprica variety makes me really happy. <3

Oh wow, I saw this linked on Tumblr when I was going through the Gaius tag looking for that "I just want to sit here and die" gif and this is exquisite! <333 You captured their voices and characterizations so well (especially the New Caprica scenes, gah...). Loved your take on their pre-Show and post-Show lives...although now I admit the "outliving" thing has only just occurred to me (do Cylons age, a la Saul Tigh and Ellen? Do they ever die naturally?)...O_o

The name thing always struck me as a little odd (I mean in the limo scene it's clear they haven't been together long, so it's understandable, but...), that we never hear a name all this time, that Gaius wouldn't have referred to her by a name he knew her by....and then he just calls her Caprica.

you're no longer cutting so short in fear that our future child's hands might be entangled in it.

So in your vision here, did they have kids? Gaius no never cut your hair short again please, just your beard

Eee, glad you stumbled on it! Thank you, that means a lot to me.

The show was never clear IMO on Cylons aging - apparently Saul and Ellen and the other Jimi Hendrix Experience did, but the seven created after them, I don't know. I choose to believe that whether they physically age or not, they have life spans very similar to humans - breaking down over time instead of dying - because (a) it makes no sense why Cavil would care about their mortality otherwise, and (b) I just CANNOT BEAR to think of them staying the same while their loved ones get older and die. If you've never read beccatoria's fic "the name of this story is your name", GO READ IT IMMEDIATELY. It's an absolutely gorgeous fic but it broke my heart ( ... )

Just found this, and it's amazing. I loved the 1st person POV, and her sad thinking about his aging, and things going back and forth between those early days and her current worrying about crops and building schoolhouses. Seeing what she was thinking after his torture was so chilling and...she seemed so resigned and forcing herself to be detached, and realizing how awful that is. I love how she sees Gaius here, at all the different stages of their relationship, so understanding that he's a flawed human being and loving him anyway, and willing to reassure him. And I love that he grows into the man he needs to be here. Wonderful!
