Moddy Post: Ship War

I'm throwing out the rules for the next couple of days, because I've been wanting to do this again for a while as it was so much fun last time. Now that the Pentathlon and most gift exchanges are over, it seemed like a good idea, and I thought it might liven up the quietness of LJ a little bit too.

We're gonna have another Ship WarThe winner will ( Read more... )

It takes him five days to accept that she's not coming back.

He knows how Lee feels about her -- knew it before Lee risked Dee's life for hers on the algae planet, but that was still an eye-opener -- and he knows that the Major wouldn't in a thousand years say Kara couldn't have survived if he hadn't seen it unfold a way that left no room for argument. The camera footage isn't lying to them. For once -- for once -- all he can think is I guess it's better you than me because he doesn't know if he'd have made it back to Galactica if he'd been out there to see her ship explode. He'd have stayed out as long as he possibly could, sure that she was still alive somewhere. Broken and bruised and burned and bleeding and running out of oxygen, but alive. AliveHe'd started to think his wife could make it through anything. He'd started to think that she would be the last person to go down even if the Cylons swarmed the fleet and boarded Galactica in overwhelming numbers, that the rest of them would fall but his wife - his frakking wife ( ... )

Oh, man, Sam. Kara. His thoughts! The way he bucks up and pulls himself back together, more or less, at the end. You and I know she is the love of his life, the beating of his heart, his reason for everything he does, and to see your take on Kara through Sam's eyes is pretty breathtaking.

I have to say I also love the edge of competition with Lee in that second paragraph. That seems to be so true to spirit, and makes the whole thing extra tough to take because it's so Sam, along with his undying belief that Kara's out there somewhere. His lucky girl. Too tough to die.
