I upgraded to Windows 7 last week; I was quite impressed with Easy Transfer, included since (I guess) Windows Vista, and how it handled moving files and settings from XP. It failed to transfer settings for Pidgin, Thunderbird, and PuTTY, but copying setting folders manually for Thunderbird and Pidgin was not painful, and replicating the few custom ( Read more... )

I've got Dragon Age and am rather meh about it - the combat interface doesn't allow you to see or control enough of the battle to play completely strategically, and the tactics system doesn't give you enough control (at least where I am in the game now) to play real-time. It's pretty and runs smoothly, though.

(Baldur's Gate 2 is still the pinnacle of role-playing combat systems, IMNSHO.)

I rather wish I'd picked up Demon's Souls, as it looks pleasantly challenging.

*shrug* I feel a certain obligation to play Dragon Age. :-)

Likewise, but perhaps more strongly, I feel a need to play The Saboteur, but I haven't bought it yet so I'm not listing it yet.

Oblivion has some Serious Flaws in its default leveling system, which the PC version lets you mod out pretty substantially. I think the 360 version got higher ratings because at the time it was one of the first and only RPGs for the console, and one of a relatively few offerings of modern western RPGs for any console at all.

Morrowind had an XBOX release IIRC but it was reportedly difficult to play since it wasn't console optimized. Oblivion is console-optimized, which shows in the GIGANTIC inventory icons and things like that.

Mass Effect similarly was console-first, though I think it handled its roots more skillfully. I also found it more interesting than Dragon Age, even though the characters are much less well-developed. I echo the comment above about DA's combat being kinda meh.

Still playing isn't the same as just playing, though.

Your kid gets a special case, he probably wasn't up to playing Diablo and StarCraft when they came out. :-)
