That's not entirely correct, though; the other part of the equation is how I know, for example, a way to turn closed captioning on/off on our DVR in fewer button presses than misphit uses (this is significant because even that smaller number is something like 17... they just didn't think people would change it once they'd set it to ( Read more... )

And I thought the 5 or so button presses required to toggle captioning on my TV were excessive.

Usually the hard part is finding the TV's remote.

It goes something like: Menu button, select the bottom option, select the next bottom option, select the option 4th from the bottom (of a long list), up, right, OK, down, OK, down, OK, Exit.

Solid advice. I printed this out and hung it outside my cube, but I really need to send it to my mother.

Our microwave loses its interface settings when the power flashes, only maybe once every few months on average. But having had it for a few years, I think I have it down to the optimal reconfiguration sequence: option+3+3+option+1+2+option+4+2+clock+[hour]+[minute]+start+[am/pm]+start. That's display scroll speed "fastest", beep indicator off, lbs->kg, and of course the time. Some steps are interchangeable but the real eureka breakthrough was moving the speed setting to the beginning to save time on everything else. :)
