And it annoys me way more than it should that Mal’s mother looks annoyed that her oldest daughter has plans, like she has no right to ever do anything but help with the kids. Do your own parenting, Mrs. Pike!
And let’s not forget the stupidest part of the archery plotline, which is that Mal is way too weak to actually hold up the bow, and instead of making her strengthen her arms as would be appropriate in gym class, they gave her a slim green plastic bow (just her) and of course she excels. I have no idea whether she was allowed to keep using the toy bow while on the archery team, but it wouldn’t make much sense to have a bunch of kids doing it right and then this one weakling goofing around with a kiddie version.
