Chapters 1 through 6Okay, so after Karen ran poor Natalie absolutely fucking ragged to give away personal information she did not have to or wish to, she made a shoddy promise to keep the secret ~forever~ and ended up telling Nancy anyway because her poor feelings were hurt by having to hold it in. So, typical Karen selfishness and disregard for ( Read more... )

Natalie's mother needs to call the school - both about Karen's stupid nosy behavior and Ms. Coleman thinking it's okay to put Natalie's personal business in the street. Okay, so she's not going blind or dying, but that's not her information to give out. I swear, if Natalie were my kid, there'd be hell raining down on Stoneybrook Day Academy or whatever special ed school Karen goes to.

Weekly? I went three times a week for three years. I have an open-bite because of lisping so long. My classmates envied me getting to go to the room with toys. That was in the 80s when lisps weren't treated like a shame and teachers didn't treat it like a huge secret (and Brady Bunch was in wide syndication with Cindy normalizing lisps). When it started being made into a medical issue subject to HIPAA so that it was all hush-hush, that's when it because something that really embarrassed kids. So I don't blame Mrs. Coleman for her appropriate (for the times) actions. Technically saying Nat isn't having an operation is spilling info.

What will Karen learn after this? Nothing. She's not aiming for attention from her parents. She's just plain a self-centered brat!!

I had weekly speech therapy for a slight lisp. It was kind of just a, we have a speech teacher so let's use her! kind of thing. Also, the therapy did not help, what did help was, you know, fixing the overbite that was causing it in the first place.

Are lisps usually caused by overbites?

am I the only one who is REALLY GLAD that Ann didn't choose to write out the lisp?

No, you're not. Thank goodness for small miracles, I guess.

IMMEDIATELY, Karen changes "I will not tell a soul" to "I will not tell a soul except for Nancy and Hannie."

I can't even with her sometimes...

I hate Karen so fucking bad right now. I hate her beyond all hate that is possible. I went to speach therapy from the time I could talk until I was 16 and I STILL can't pronounce certain words correctly (anything that has a "R" in it can be somewhat difficult). I was teased for the way I talked and it took a long, long time to feel comfortable talking to people I wasn't close to. I still clam up sometimes. It's not fun at all.

Other than that, great snark.
