This book hasn't been snarked and it's obvious why... it deals with a lot of things that are hard to snark. I'm going to give it a shot, but some parts will come out sounding more like a summary and I hope no one minds that.
This is one of my favorite Abby books. And it's not just because Abby is my second favorite BSC member after Stacey. I lost a family member to breast cancer when I was ten. Back then I didn't know that's what they had. I only knew they were really sick. This book actually helped me heal the rest of the way from that experience. You're doing a good job so far with this book.
Side note: While there is nothing wrong with trying to cheer up a sad child, there is also nothing wrong with letting them express their feelings before trying to help them feel better. I don't think the BSC ever learned that.
You're right. "You’d be amazed buy the colors that go together. Take pink and gold. You might not think to wear pink socks with gold stretch pants, and then add a gold turtle neck under a pink sweater. But that’s what I did yesterday, then I added blue jewellery. It was great! I looked like a human sunset, the outfit made me very happy." From Claudia and the Perfect Boy.
if Abby doesn't give a shit, I think Anna should just let it go. Instead she insists on folding all of Abby's clothes herself... okay. Jeez, if she's like this with her sister, I don't even want to know what she'll be like if she has kids.
She says that she "didn't bring the BSC notebook with her" Say that out loud at a meeting and Kristy probably will make you do a set quota of babysitting and write about it in minute detail next time you go somewhere.
Also, "Aunt Miriam" makes me picture Aunt Miriam in Rugrats.
I just read this book right before the unrecapped list was posted. I actually thought it was really good. Abby's already my favorite, and it seems like she gets some plot lines that haven't been used before. I think it's interesting that we see so much of her extended family given that she only appeared in book 90. Why did they put so much effort into making Abby interesting at the same time that all the others were becoming one-sided caricatures of themselves?
I'm glad to see you used the rampant lesbianism tag for this. All the waxing on about how great Kristy is in the beginning, and then having her come to a family party...it's all just way too overt. Almost as bad as in FF #9.
