I'm related to a real-life millionaire who adores Costco. Actually I know several millionaires who do. Good stuff. Their huge ficksticks are amazing ( ... )

Does it say Costco in the American edition? I only have the UK edition and it says 'Cost Club'. Different? Perhaps the editors not wanting to use a real place?

I wonder if "Hooterville" was just Ann's reference to Green Acres? Wasn't that the name of the town they lived in? Or am I thinking of Petticoat Junction?

Must admit I'm absolutely hypnotized by the shopping cart gif. What's that from? jw

Well, Green Acres took place in Hootersville (with an S because Lisa says is that way, so there!), though GA and PJ were in the same universe and had cross-over episodes.

I've seen every episode of Green Acres, including the movie, and have them all on DVD somewhere...even though the entire series including the movie hasn't been released like that, unless they did in the last couple years. Too bad the last couple episodes of the show were major WTF. Problem is they couldn't make the show with with the increasing women's movement of the 70's. Though Lisa was, and still is, well-loved and a whole lot smarter than she's made out to be most of the time, she wasn't a Mary Tyler Moore, and the attempt to "modernize" Lisa for part of the last season just didn't work.

I'm not sure! But I came across the gif a while ago and was pretty amused by it!

Hooterville probably is just an Ann reference, but I was not familiar with Green Acres until you guys pointed it out to me (thanks!). Thought it was a whimsical sounding name! Still if Ann had been in the mood for 'borrowing' names, I am surprised she didn't just choose Oz *rolls eyes*

Mal has been ill for yonks (perhaps that is accurate for the Ann Hates Mal campaign).
Hell, from what I've heard it's a more accurate portrayal of mono than Mal having the energy to make hundreds of cookies and beanbags and shit a couple of weeks into it.

‘I still felt exhausted but I was happy’ - that’s what she said …

and instead opt for mystery novels with ‘nice’ pictures of cats, flowers, horses and houses on them.
My first thought was whether those books were full of annoying and/or nauseating cliches, then imagined the old folks snarking them together. I'll still be snarking when I'm old - in fact, I read somewhere that reading and writing both help to strengthen the brain against dementia, and snarking books can involve both!

Sweetly enough they have decided to buy toys for the elderly residents rather ( ... )

Ugh yes there are even WORSE ones: 'The perfect book for Mrs Brookes is the one that's titled Too Many Crooks' and 'Here's a book for Herman Schwartz, a picture of a frog with warts'. Rubbish.
