I'd like to request Don't Give Up, Mallory if you can (it's been part snarked but not finished.) I have the ebook if you're interested but don't have it.

ooh, that could be fun! it hits a bunch of my buttons for bad pedagogy/bullying/pasted-on feminism, iirc.

That's the one! I'd love to hear your take on all of that.

Kristy and Claudia try to convince her to ask Richard to switch her to their class, but she claims he wouldn’t want to do that, because she really wants to be Ms. Elison’s class.
Holy WOW, actively choosing to stay in a separate class from the pre-Cult? There really was a lot less Kool-Aid being drunk when they were kids.

Uh, no. Friendly, sure. But she’s not outgoing by any plausible definition of the word, and that’s okay. It’s not the end-all and be-all, Ann.
THIS, THANK YOU.

the lulzy part where she says to Tigger, “I know you understand. You probably don’t remember your mother either.” And Tigger is all, “WTF? I’m a kitten. I mean, ‘purr.’”
My cat would say "Bitch, did you spend the first year of your life on the streets?" Also, I love "I have unmet needs" lolcat even more than the others.

And more seriously, ever heard of a fucking phone? Or the fucking post office?Hell, my mum's brothers live on almost the complete opposite side of the world from my mum and their parents and they've still managed to keep in touch ( ... )

You know, I think AMM just confuses "shy" with being unpleasant, and that's annoying because while one can be mistaken for the other, they're not at all the same thing. (Actually, I've found "shyness" tends to be a cover for other things. Everyone in high school thought I was shy when really, I had nothing in common with them.) I can actually see MA being the type to just not like anyone who isn't a BSC member, because the BSC is like that in general, but that isn't how she's written.

It's hard not to infer that Ann is both shy and (coincidentally) unpleasant.

But yeah, I've been told I come across as reserved or standoffish or even snobby, when I really just don't know what to do or say.

The one thing I've never understood-- Dawn et als make a huge deal that Carol is in her 30s and OMFG NO... But if Alma (who I definitely thought was named something different) died when she was 24 and Mary Anne was an infant that would mean she would have been 37 at the time of the BSC canon... I doubt that Richard would have been that much older than Alma, so he, too, is likely late 30s, which means Dawn's mother would also be the same age as Richard......... so what is the issue with Carol being in her 30s, she's not that much younger than the rest of the parents...

I think Richard was 42 in canon, but still, not old.

I never got that, either. Even if Carol were 31 or so and Dawn's dad was 40 or 41, we're not talking a huuuuge gap, like 20+ years or something.

How old are Kristy's and Claudia's parents? They might be a bit older, like 45 or so. I'm speculating, though, as I highly doubt AMM would have had a single mom who also had her first kid when she was 18.

I'm pretty sure in Kristy and the Mother's Day Surprise, Kristy says her mom is about 37, which means she was about 20 when Charlie was born. Scandalous! (This also, I think, leads to a lot of fanon about the Thomases having a shotgun wedding.)

But yeah, Dawn freaking out about Carol being "too young" never made much sense.

Great snark, love all of the lol cats. This book does make me appreciate Richard more but really, what did happen prior to book #4 because Richard seems much more understanding in MA's earlier years.
