Mod post: Snark versus rants/crossing the line

Nov 11, 2012 09:08

Hey guys. I hope you are having a good Veteran's Day and a good weekend overall.

This is a post concerning some minor issues that have come up recently and I wanted to address. I'm not trying to be K-Ron here and micromanage anyone's snarks, but I do think there's things we need to keep in mind (within reason, of course).

Cut for length, but please read )

mod post, conference room - five minutes!

You're correct about this. When I first joined this website, I noticed that a lot of people on here were swearing - and making adult-oriented jokes- both of which I'm not ready for yet. I know the people on here are grown up, but a little of these things at a time are good, not just every other sentence.

Thank you for posting this! It's not my intention to and I hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings by saying this, but I felt the same about the ranty snarks. It's super fun to pick apart and read about other people picking apart dumb stuff in these books, but it was turning me off when most of them sounded legitimately rage-filled. Not that there aren't things in these books sometimes that can make people see red! But it was stressing me out to see all that supposed anger here, when this is a community I've been coming to as long as it's been open to chill out and crack up.

I agree with this so hard! The best thing about reading a lot of these snarks is that you can tell they're coming from people who love/d these books as much as 12-year-old me! Sure, they have their flaws, but I definitely still have a soft spot for them!

*nod* Fair enough. Profanity should be used as extreme emphasis, not punctuation, is the way I see it.
