I don't know if Claudia would become a cutter . . . she seems more the type to turn to binge eating, since chocolate never judges her. But if she does, she'll be the type who incorporates her own blood into her artwork and probably get a gallery showing because of the edginess.

Agreed. I have a hard time picturing Claudia being a cutter. Unfortunately I think something like that would be up Mallory's aisle.

“Plus we asked a new friend of mine, Stacey McGill, to join, which she did.” I don’t understand the italics.
It sounds to me like she's being passive-aggressive about someone who was smart enough to run a mile.

That conversation about the window/climate control is really ham-fisted. If you know everybody's going to be out, you close the windows so that THE HOUSE DOESN'T GET BURGLED, not just because of the weather. And since when does opening and closing a window count as artificial climate control - and if it does, wouldn't Janine have used artificial climate control by opening the window in the first place? Nothing about this conversation makes any sense. But at any rate, Claudia's a fine one to talk about tangents given the way these girls always go "It's snowing/my aunt's having a baby/I just breathed - time to tell you all about the BSC and its members in excruciating detail!"

I think it's italicized because in the previous sentence she says "which we did". If you were speaking out loud and followed that sentence up with one that ends in "which she did" as the book does, the natural tendency would be to put emphasis on the "she" to distinguish her actions from the prior mentioned "we".
