I'm skeptical that every single person in the 'Brook drops what they're doing to watch a bunch of thirteen-year-olds solve math problems. Wouldn't they be more inclined to watch that wrestling match next door? Now, if the high school football or basketball team were to make it to state finals, THAT would have been a big deal. That sort of turnout for a middle-school quiz bowl competition would be parents and close friends at best. (I can attest as our state's parochial schools had these annual math and spelling competitions, and having made it to state finals and placing every year, no one attended (or cared) but the parents. Stacey rescues the team from a hideously embarrassing loss, and sets up possibly one of the most cringeworthy images in BSC history by arranging for her socially inept Mathlete friends to have dinner with her socially inept BSC friends to celebrate - without her.--And this one event where both sides stayed on opposite sides of the room.
