i'm just gonna say, as a general statement about this community, that it gets really, really tedious to read snark after snark in which people feel the need to refer to fictional 13-year-old girls as bitches. the plotlines are often ridiculous, the characters often exhibit obnoxious behavior, but i really do not understand why that can't just be stated without resorting to misogynist slurs. it's possible to be funny, or express frustration, without being an asshole.

especially in light of the fact that most people who enjoy this community are girls/women who started reading this series when they were children, i really don't understand the need to use language like that. i'm not picking on you, specifically, aceattorneysho--this is just the third snark i've read this morning that liberally employed the word "bitch" & it's getting old.

I'm apologize for any inadvertent offenses I may have caused. I've gone back and edited to censor myself and will be more conscious in the future.

While you have a good point, please refrain from ad hominem (personal insults).

Also, while we draw the line at some words (such as the C one) towards the characters, "bitch" is only off limits for the younger characters. This may change in the future, but nobody's broken any rules.

Personally, I didn't find it offensive. Snark away, aceoattorneysho, I really enjoyed this one.

Oh God, I totally remember reading this as a child and it said "Claudia's nail polish." No editor is capable of catching that?? I also never bought the fact that Claudia could somehow remember exactly how Karl Tate walked, and that his son walked in the exact same way. I'm pretty sure I don't walk exactly like my mother.

About Karen's refusal to use contractions, I don't think that's a mistake at all. Karen's such a nut for correct spelling and grammar (like her Kristy's Crushers shirt, NOT Krushers) and I think it was said several times in the books that she never used contractions. I actually find it to be a pretty believable phase for a kid to go through - especially one who OMG skipped a grade and is sooo precocious!

I suppose. Though in the LS books the only contractions are when an editor slips up and forgets to correct one. Eeeeveryone, including adults and Kristy, speaks the way Karen does. I guess since it's first person then... okay, sure, she's going to do that. But man... if it's just cuz that's how she is... how does Ann think that's adorable? Karen's no Archie.

Okay, it wasn't until about halfway through this snark that I realized, I read this book way back in the day!
And it's just as crazy as 11-year old me thought it was.
Thank you for the excellent snark!

If I were 11 and read this, I'd probably think it was amazeballs.

But I'm glad you enjoyed the snark! :D

This is why I can't stand a majority of the mystery books. They just...baffle the mind. I mean first off, why would 13 year olds be able to solve these crimes? And after the scary events in this book you'd think someone would alert an adult. You'd think.

Great snark! Thanks for posting.

Very welcome!

And you'd think that- but no. No, it just made them want to solve more.
