She got an 81, which should be cause for celebration, but her parents aren't accepting of it.

WTF, Kishis? An 81 is like an A-!

Betsy asked if she embarrassed Claudia, and Claud replies that she did.

I'd say the problem is less that she was embarassed and more that she broke her freakin' leg.

I can't believe Ms. Sobak actually kept calling the BSC. "Hi, I know one of your members was seriously injured due to my inability to discipline my daughter, but will you please sit for her again?"

Cookie seemed pretty oblivious to anything, and since the BSC didn't specifically say they refused to sit for Betsy--I imagine the previous sitters did--well, she kept calling. And they kept taking the jobs!

A-, really? Where are you from, might I ask?? 81 is a C in my school district. 93 is an A-.

(But from Claudia, it's still enough to be proud of. Her parents are dicks sometimes.)

They could be from a place where C is the last passing grade, and C- and below is a fail. Even if the percentages/letters are different, the amounts and qualities of work will still be the same :)

You know, I have to wonder if they bothered telling Betsy's parents about the other pranks. I'm sure they would not have been impressed, considering one prank had landed their sitter in the hospital. The sitters needn't have resorted to pranking back - considering they're supposed to be taking care of her, that's actually stooping to a very low level.

ETA: Actually, scratch that... on second thought, considering the mother's name is Cookie, the point is probably supposed to be that they're the type of parents who laugh when their kids come close to knocking elderly people over at the store because "it's so cute when they're excited" and wouldn't really understand it if the sitters complained. Still, you'd think Mrs. Kishi at least would've put her foot - or leg? - down and said something.

The other BSC members specifically did *not* tell the Sobaks about the other pranks Betsy pulled, mainly because they'd pulled pranks as well, and that's totes unprofessional. Yes, they did stoop, but this group is led by Kristy, who I'm convinced is a 9-year-old boy (see tag).

Perhaps Mrs. Kishi tried to say something to the Sobaks but couldn't get a hold of them. I didn't mention it here, but they attended several golf tournaments in the course of the story.

I misread Cookie Sobak as Cookie Sobake. XD Thanks for snarking, this one brings back the memories.

I wonder why all the other kids in Stoneybrook are catching this...prank-fad. I know that the subplots always seem to coincide/be mirrors of the book's main plot, but that's ridiculous. (If it were April Fool's Day, I could forgive it, but I see no such mentioning.)
Yeah, what was up with that?

I feel we need an infusion of the Three Stooges, stat!

It was the slapstick film fest--it brought out the practical jokers. Basically, anyone who attended got inspired (with a little help from McBuzz's).

it's a crank call, asking for Prince Albert in a can
Was this before or after they invented penis piercings called Prince Alberts?

Claudia's simply confused. You should have just asked if her refrigerator's running.
Or called Stacey...

Claire, who promptly squirts Jessi in the face with a water gun. (Perhaps something similar is how Squirt Ramsey actually got his nickname, eh?)
...BUKKAKE?!
I now have a mental picture of Jessi's parents as the Seth and Lisa of Oakley.

I motion to slap her upside the head. Do I hear a second?
Seconded, thirded and fourthed. (Though I did love the "God made Claudia...well, we all make mistakes" thing.)

Dawn mentions that Claud owes dues from when she was in the hospital.
Speaking of slapping people. Jeez, Dawn. What happened to the niceness you showed when she was in the hospital?

...Wait, Dawn gets reimbursed for a toll call (which her family would probably pay anyway) but Claudia has to pay dues for the time she was in hospital? Nice.

I don't doubt that Kristy's dreamed of the day that a girl ( ... )

Uh...I think the piercing came after the crank call. Prince Albert is a sardine brand (hence "Prince Albert in a can").

I was thinking pee with Squirt. PEE. :P

I can't believe it took until this comment to get a second on slapping Kristy!

Heh, we don't have Prince Albert sardines here. So if anyone asked me that, my immediate reaction would be "...Penis rings?"

I can't believe I didn't think of pee. My view of Squirt's name has been permanently influenced by the snarker who said it referred to him being an accident. XD

It's tobacco, actually.

And I'd like to fifth slapping Kristy but I'm afraid this many grown women slapping her around will give her even more twisted fetishes than she already has to look forward to.
