I know what you’re thinking: how can she snark the story about cancer? Well, the story delves more into the ‘littlest cancer patient’ style than actual ‘cancer! oh noes!’. Thank God, otherwise I'd feel completely heartless as opposed to just slightly heartless
So, let's dig in to this Very Special Episode, Jessi's Wish

Interesting that in this one they actually have the hospital ridden kids with serious illnesses, whereas when they do another hospital volunteering subplot later in the series, the kids' pen pals have broken bones and minor surgical recoveries.
WHY would a small town have a diabetes center? Oh, and isn't this the book where Kristy is all bitchy about parents leaving their kids in day care? Because it's so different than leaving your kids with a baby-sitter, seriously.

Also, is it named after Wilford Brimley?

Do you mean physically disabled? But I like "psychically disabled" better.

I've worked at a couple of day care centres, and I was required to get a background check for each and sign a confidentiality statement, among tons of other paperwork. I can just imagine Kristy charging into a day care and demanding that they let her volunteer. ("But I'm the PRESIDENT of the BSC!")
I hate how Kristy gets all judgemental about people who put kids in day care, but I'll wait until you get to that part. :)
