Sort of - you still have The Prince and Me, What a Girl Wants, and more movies and books all about prim and proper Europeans (usually Brits) meeting open-minded Americans who know how to live the good life. *Rolls eyes*
What I want to know is, did AMM start the fire horrible sub-genre? O_o
I think children's authors suck at trying to teach kids about other countries. I remember this book I had as a child that was horrible. My parents had no idea what they'd actually gotten me until I asked why our (Canadian) family didn't all live in Igloos and fish out of ice.
Cripes. Just reading your snark hurt my brain, I can only imagine what the actual book might have done to me. I applaud your bravery in sludging through it!
WOW, bsc. Insensitivity much? If I were taking someone else's 13-year-old daughters out in the most dangerous city of an unknown country, along with someone else's 8-year-old, and they decided to ditch me because hey, one of them grew up here, I would seriously be busting some caps. How were they not punished??
Because they're the m-f'ing BSC and can do no wrong ever! There are more dangerous cities than NYC, but even if they were in the safest, it was incredibly, unbelievably stupid of them to take someone else's child and ditch the nanny. How hard would it have been to tell her they're going to this place or that so she wouldn't worry? But as is only natural, Miss R. got handed her ass and the BSC is all shiny and perfect and probably gt a bonus of some sort.
Proof there is a god or three is that coffee is the magical morning drink that any alcohol goes in. Drop in 6oz of Bailey's into 2oz of coffee and no one thinks twice. It's a coffee drink, and coffee is for mornings

I picked it up from a forum for disgruntled McDonalds workers with mostly British members and have always liked the word.

That'd be a fanfic. BSC babysits Dennis the Menace. He'd have all of the Stoneybrook kids turn evil.
