We now come to the end of poor Lou's merciless harassment and judgement at the hands of the best babysitters ever. You know, the girls' disposition towards Lou is actually realistic for 13-year-olds. And now we get back to a book that is very, very bad for all of our collective blood pressures. Again, this book is cold, hard evidence that the BSC's criteria for who's a good kid and who's a bad one is "How much BSC Kool Aid is this kid willing to drink?"

Okay so, this book is probably the QUINTESSENTIAL example of how the BSC bases their disposition towards the children they sit for on just how willing said children are to go along with what the BSC's personal image of a perfect child is. Okay the conclusion- but before I snark I want to comment on a few things… First, I don’t blame the BSC for their reaction because it is obvious that a group of pre-teens who have lived very privileged lives and probably never encountered a foster system, so it is logical they wouldn’t realize the depth of emotional trauma that Lou has coming into ( Read more... )

No, this book isn't about Karen. It's a BSC foray into social issues, and this one tackles foster care and psychological problems. All in all, not a bad book, although pretty shamelessly borrows from the Great Gilly Hopkins, one of my all time favorite books.
