One in a series of love letters

Hello internets! I feel horrible about my lack of LJ/DW participation, and I feel even more horrible that I seem to start every post this way these days, and I could offer you excuses but I won't. What I did want to do is share some joy, because I am deep down a fannish wormhole recently about Amy Poehler (and now also Seth Meyers, and also how ( Read more... )

YES YES YES YES YES! I just sent an email two days ago to china_shop saying: "All of my new passwords for various job sites and recruitment agencies are all Knope-based. I am going to Leslie myself into a job!" And included a link to this. And Leslie wouldn't be Leslie if it weren't for Amy.

I also love that she's dating Nick Kroll as he's one of my favourites on the Comedy Bang Bang podcast. And he's really not a Douche. ;) Amy's also been a guest three times, and was of course amazingly awesome. Check them out! I'm going to re-listen to them right now. :D

OMG, that Leslie Knope Compliments post! <33333333333333 And yes, Leslie absolutely wouldn't be Leslie without Amy. I love them both so very, very much. Good luck with your job hunt! :D

And I would love to hear all the things about Nick Kroll! I would really like to work on my relationship with him, because I do basically only know him from Parks and Rec and I hate The Douche SO MUCH and so I am having a hard time getting on board with him and Amy being together. And I want to be on board!

Ooooooh, yay, a project! (Unemployed me needs projects!) I will compile a "Nick Kroll" primer/link-a-thon for you. :D Will post it today or tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a quick vid of him talking about Amy (before they were a couple).

AMY AMY AMY AMYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. *explodes in shower of hearts*

That is all.

(Except for how I listened to both the Tina Fey and Mindy Kaling books as audiobooks narrated by themselves and that increased the epic quotient SIGNIFICANTLY for me. *more hearts*)

AAAAAAAAAAMYYYYYYYYYYYYY. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW SHE'S REAL. BUT I'M INCREDIBLY GLAD THAT SHE IS.

And the audiobook route sounds like an EXCELLENT one. I could really hear Tina's voice in her book; Mindy's is not quite what I expected, though (I mostly know her from the roles she's played and her Twitter feed), so that is also cool!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

OKAY WAIT.

Amy was in the middle of some such nonsense with Seth Meyers

Amy Poehler's laugh: a warm, intoxicating cackle

That is so perfect! It's like she's a writer or something! Hee.

WOW did this post make me happy. Amy Poehler is MAGICAL. I can't believe she exists in the world.

Yeah, I was just kind of skimming Tina's book last night for that quote and it made me REALLY EXCITED to re-read it now that I have Seth feelings, too. Like the whole section where she talks about her Sarah Palin sketches, because Seth (and Amy, in the case of the Palin/Clinton one) co-wrote those and they were SO GOOD in SO MANY WAYS and the whole thing just makes me sooooo happyyyyy. (Mindy also mentions Seth, mostly to talk about how she had brought all of these preppy clothes to New York and then she got to SNL and Seth was in, like, a grey t-shirt and jeans. SOUNDS GOOD TO ME.)

Anyway. SPOILER: AMY IS MADE OF MAGIC.

She IS so, so lovely. And Fierce.

I read this reply on Tumblr by Kelly Sue Deconnick that is totally in line with those excerpts, imo. It's so dang important for women to support women. Especially when they're good at what they do.

I love Kelly Sue DeConnick SO VERY MUCH, though in terms of her work itself, I have only read the first issue of Captain Marvel so far, and her Sif one-shot (but I'm really excited to read more). But I did some research on her a while back when I was applying for a copywriting position with Geek Girl Con, and everything I found out about her just made me fall more and more in love with her. She is such a brilliant and badass lady, and funny, and thoughtful, and such a wonderful role model (in a way that feels totally attainable, like I loved that post she did at one point about how incredibly difficult it is for her to balance the things in her life, because she doesn't want to support the concept of The Lady Who Can Do Everything), and such a great supporter of ladies/girls of talent and enthusiasm. PLUS she's an excellent writer. I think she's amazing ( ... )

I almost want to pay for LJ again so I can have Amy icons. AMY IS AMAZING.

And honestly, I love her as well as for how great she is in herself (WHICH SHE IS ON LIKE EVERY LEVEL HI AMY YOU ARE AMAZING), for her ability to inspire people like Andy Samburg. Not that long ago, something like Brooklyn 99 would not have happened. Or not at all in the same way. And it's so clear that, among other things, that's thanks to Amy. BECAUSE SHE IS GREAT.

YES. And not just Samberg, but also Mike Schur and Dan Goor, who co-created B99--Dan Goor used to write for/produce P&R, and Mike Schur and Amy actually go back to SNL in the early 2000s. Let me tell you my feelings about Mike Schur (though funnily enough, I was actually a fan of his for baseball reasons before I became a fan of his for P&R reasons): for one thing, he loves Amy SO MUCH. I found the cutest Tumblr compilation of him tweeting pissily for years about how Amy never wins major awards, and then how he cried when she won a Golden Globe this year. AWWWW. He has also written some of my very favorite episodes of P&R, and some of the ones that are most about Leslie being awesome: Galentine's Day; The Trial of Leslie Knope; Win, Lose, or Draw; Leslie and Ben, etc. He's also married to JJ Philbin, who is an awesome TV writer in her own right (she wrote some of the best stuff in S4 of The OC, and some great episodes of New Girl as well), and is really good friends with Mindy Kaling from their time writing for The Office, and has ( ... )

YES. Absolutely. I said Samburg in particular because maybe, like, five years ago, he would be doing dick comedy and Peralta would have ACTUALLY been the dude I thought he was going to be. But he wasn't! And I love that, like you say, B99 kind of builds on P&R - P&R is excellent in so many ways, and then B99 is like, yeah, and it doesn't stop there. We have more things to say. We have more awesome ladies to meet, and jokes to make, and ways to be in the world. I LOVE THAT.

(yeah fat jokes need to stop though :( )

And Amy writing and producing more can ONLY BRING JOY and yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. I love her and everything about her, like, SHE WANTS TO COME FROM A PLACE OF YES and BE THE PERSON SWINGING THE BAT and I cannot even.

Oh, yes, that is true! I have never been a huge fan of Andy Samberg before this, and I REALLY disliked Peralta early on, to the point where I'm shocked at how much I love him now (it was the episode where he was so worried about Terry's kids that got me--aaaaaagh so cute). My impression (from Amy, in fact, among others) is that Samberg is actually a sweetheart, but yeah, you really couldn't tell from a lot of the roles he's played. (Look at him and Amy in the last gif here, though. AWWWWWW. Though every gif I've seen of that cuts off the SUPER CUTE hug afterward and I don't know why! And then there's this from the Golden Globes. AWWWWW.)

We have more things to say. We have more awesome ladies to meet, and jokes to make, and ways to be in the world.

Awww, yesssssssssss! <333333

And I love Amy's whole "place of yes" approach to the world SO MUCH, and the fact that she manages it in conjunction with not hesitating to say no when appropriate, too, is just the BEST THING. She's my hero.

(OMG, epic HTML fail, sorry /o\)
