And also: de-explodified! YES. I love this word. :) (I do think that it was left ambiguous with Pepper, at least, on purpose, which makes me hope that they're planning on using that in future films! Because that would be very interesting!)
I love me some Guy Pearce (main Extremis dude),but they didn't exactly explain his character motivations very well.
I agree with that. It's not something that particularly bothered me; I think the basic idea was what Maya talked about with Pepper in the hotel, that people start with these grand ideas and they get slowly twisted over time, which is a theme I think has been present in all of these movies to some extent. And with Killian specifically, it seemed like his plot against Tony was about revenge for his rejection, and not just Tony rejecting him, but Tony as a representative of the world that had rejected him. Plus I'm usually less interested in the villains than I am in the protagonists, so I was fine with Killian as a foil for Tony, and wasn't that invested in Killian himself. So it worked well enough for me, but I totally see why people have objections to it.
What's the point of Mandarin being there if he's only going to be in 10 mins of the whole movie?I think the point was to take this character who plays a major role

Another friend of mine made pretty much this exact point when I talked to him about the movie. Shame on me for missing something so obvious. XD
I think the point was to take this character who plays a major role in the comics, but is a really racist caricature, and point out what a racist caricature he is. So the villain wasn't the person himself, but the idea behind him--the politics of fear and xenophobia, etc.
Good point. Also I think the way Mandarin was used really mirrored a lot of how media is now.....the way we're so easily distracted, and how easily people are fooled by their own beliefs & predjudices (though when I read it, you basically just said the same thing. LOL.)
Like his comments about Tony being out of the suit for a lot of the movie, and the fragility of the suits in general And also when I think about

Brain radios, man, only you are clearly the one with the better brain and the words because this review is very yes yes yes for me. "What she said," is what I'm going to say if anyone asks me how I liked the movie. Up to now, my response has been, "omgawesome *handflail*" So, as usual, my life is greatly improved by your word-fu

And I'm with you that I just assumed that Tony fixed Extremis for both Pepper AND himself. That may be because of what happens in the comics world eventually (the two universes are completely separate and handle this story very differently) but it just seemed like if he was giving up the suits/arc reactor/etc., but still is very aware of what's out there...he's not going to leave himself unprotected, ya know? Hmm. I may be wrong but that's how I read it.
I am SO curious to see where they go with this. I kind of really want Pepper to have Extremis, just because it would be fun and put her in a better position to protect herself and not need rescuing, but I'm on the fence about Tony; on one hand, I like him being a cyborg (the whole "nanites in the bone marrow" thing that's apparently in the comics is intriguing to me, as well as hilarious, because nanites are always hilarious to me as a plot device), and that would help make up for the loss of the arc reactor, but OTOH, I like him being kind of fragile compared to the gods and supersoldiers in the Avengers, and Extremis makes him WAY more powerful. Anyway: I am curious!
