Oh man, that group sounds AWESOME. I'm so glad you had a good experience! And YES, the thing with Shakespeare is that it's always SO evident both that it was intended to be HEARD, for sure, but also that it was written because those lines would be fun to SAY. Just satisfying and fitting and the language gives you SO MUCH to work with. BEST ( ... )

YES. I took a short Shakespeare workshop once that focused a lot on the actual SOUND and FEELING of the text and it was amazing how helpful that was for performance. I looooooooved it.

I think that's part of the reason why there CAN be so many different interpretations of Shakespeare, and also concept productions that are basically AUs, because there's enough SPACE for that sort of reimagining to make it work.Eeeeee, yes yes yes! And the fact that the themes are universal and therefore applicable to so many situations. But I LOVE the idea of productions-as-fic, what an awesome way to look at it! And the canon gives us SO much to play with; as much as I understand the urge to write crazy detailed stage directions and such (I AM LOOKING AT YOU, GEORGE BERNARD SHAW), there's something so glorious about the fact that really all we have with ( ... )

Your discussion about Shakespeare is always so fascinating to me. I have only the basest knowledge of the source plays and definitely nothing in-depth, having not even seen most of them performed, so I always learn something new when you talk about it. <3

Awww, yay, I'm so glad to hear that! <3 I don't know much, myself, in the grand scheme of things, but I do love talking about it.

I just keep yelling YES to all of your FNL comments (luckily no one can hear me, they'd be very suspicious.) I'd write another long comment re: your thoughts but I figured I'd spare you that this time (the only thing two things I will say is

one...I agree SO hard about Waverly. She & Smash were SO cute together. and that conversation between him/her outside the burger place about her needing to tell him about her situation? KILLS ME...EVERY TIME.

I realllly didn't like Santiago at first, I just always thought how if only everyone had been so eager to give Tim the help & chances they gave to Santiago. OTOH Tim probably wouldn't have been receptive to it.

Love your enthusiasm about Sheaspeare. Is it terrible that I read that Laertes dialog in Tom Hiddleston's voice?

Waverly and Smash were AWESOME, and I'm really sad that never really got to go anywhere. Sigh.

OTOH Tim probably wouldn't have been receptive to it. Yeah, I agree, and also I think it's entirely possible he would have wasted it, and that people probably HAVE given him quite a bit of help and chances that he HAS squandered. I love Tim a LOT, but he is not the most motivated person in the world, and his work ethic is generally extremely questionable; he doesn't go to classes, doesn't do his homework, shows up drunk to practice, we never see him even try to get a job while he's in high school, he doesn't want to go to college because it will interfere with his busy beer-drinking schedule. He has had TERRIBLE examples (in his dad and Billy) so I cut him some slack for that, and he has definitely had bad shit happen to him that was beyond his control, AND he has a lot of awesome qualities and is deserving of help in dealing with some of his issues. But at the end of the day, he HAS had a lot of opportunities that he's either outright ( ... )

That whole situation w/Tim & his dad just enraged me no end. I mean I get wanting the guy back in his life & all but come ON (Not to say it isn't warranted at times but the way Tim just doesn't appreciate Billy, IJDEK.) AND the situation w/the camera (I wish Tim would've talked more to Coach T about what happened. Though that goes back to the thing re: Tim wasting opportunities & things. People offer him a hand & he just refuses it at times.) I totally didn't like Santiago (like I said previously) up until the situation w/staying with Buddy & getting the bed. Like sheesh, Tim may not have had everything but at least he had a bed to sleep in ( ... )
