How wrong we were to think that immortality meant never dying

Whee, my co-worker and I just created a very slightly complex Sharepoint workflow! IT WAS REALLY FUN. Seriously! I love that shit, that's challenging without being impossible, and you can see all the little pieces falling into place when it's done. It's the exact same satisfaction I used to get out of working out a physics problem in high school. ( Read more... )

Ahahaha, your icon. ♥

And yes! ILL is the greatest thing, because it turns tiny crappy library branches into magical fonts of delicious books! I love it.

I, too, am very curious about the book on comic scripts--I will let you know if I end up liking it! So far I have only read the Chuck Dixon chapter and I must say it kind of made me want to punch him in the nose, but hopefully the rest of it will be less nose-punch-y. (Who unironically identifies with the Punisher, SERIOUSLY.)

*embraces your epic comic choices and kinda rolls around on the floor in an orgy of literary glee with them*

Um, by which I mean that I adore both Sandman and Umbrella Academy, and can quite possibly be all arm-wavy and enthusiastic about them until the cows come home.

he said that UA is kind of an "arrogant" book in that "it assumes you've read previous issues" THAT DO NOT EXIST. Which is totally the feeling I had, reading it for the first time-the first issue especially was pretty damn confusing, and it wasn't until the second read-through that I could keep everybody straight, all the timelines and powers and relationships and stuff.

THIS. MY EXACT REACTIONS. In fact, I had this exact same conversation with C when I pimped her into reading Apocalypse Suite just after she moved abroad; she kept on sending me these texts and emails going "wait, but why isn't the tenactle one called Kraken, and where did he--ooooh, I get it!" Not gonna lie, it was pretty hilarious :D

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! *totally voyeurs your literary glee orgy*

"wait, but why isn't the tenactle one called Kraken, and where did he--ooooh, I get it!"

HEE, that is HILARIOUS. And I know you have squicks about real people doing things, so I don't know if this would hit that squick, but just in case, here is a Q&A with Gerard at the School of Visual Arts, where he talks about comics and music and art and is generally hilarious and adorable and thoughtful and smart and delightful. YMMV, of course. :)

If you're interested, I have a really cool book called Dust Covers: The Sandman Covers. It's pretty cool, and insanely gorgeous.

Oh, Sandman *happysigh* So glad you're trying the series - I honestly don't know how you could be disappointed - it's one of my favorite series of all times (Preacher is another), and i rec Gaiman to people all the time. It isn't really a feel good kind of book, but it's a rich, interestin gworld, and he pulls from so many sources and I'm trying not to overhype it so I'll stop.

If you've not read his fic, hopefully the comic will convince you to try it as well.

Happy reading!

(butting in, to say, I think after I hyped Sandman up to her as The Best Comic in the Universe, nothing you did would be oversell :) I, uh, may have even spammed her with photos of GNeil.)

I've read the first trade so far and found it fascinating--I'm anxious to read more! And I've read Good Omens and Stardust and American Gods before, so his style and preoccupations aren't unfamiliar to me, which is helpful; he treads about as close to the edge of horror as I am willing to go, but so far it's at a manageable level for me (as long as I don't read it right before I go to sleep!). I love the way he works with mythology, and I'm so curious to see what he does with it in the Sandman universe. I'll report back when I've read more! :)

HI ILU and your library epiphany! ♥ Libraries are magical places, it is true. And it's a (sadly) well-kept secret they they often have a TON of comic books! I didn't really figure that out until I started working at one, but it's AWESOME.

HAI HAI HAI. It makes total sense that libraries would end up with a lot of comics, now that I think about it--I'm sure hardcore, long-time comics fans have to clean out their shelves a lot, and all that goodness has to go somewhere. This is very good information to have!

LIBRARIES. THEY ARE PRETTY AWESOME.
