You only live forever in the lights you make

It's Friday and most of you are away for one reason or another, but I'm posting anyway, because I am (*knocks on wood*) in a disgustingly good mood, despite the relentless rain and a very frustrating week at work. WHICH IS ALMOST OVER. THANK GOD.

- I've been reading the Who Is Donna Troy? trade that mrs_laugh_track loaned me, and it is awesome, and all about ( Read more... )

when i grow up, baseball, my chemical romance, dcu, writing

Your Gerard/MCR love makes me smile. And LOL at the prank they pulled on you. :P You are right though, Pete and Gerard are very different people. Even with their similarities, they deal with those issues/traits very differently.

Yeah, I will readily admit to not knowing all that much about Pete, but they certainly strike me as very different, on the surface anyway. And their music is definitely different; I tried to like FOB several times and it just didn't click for me, and I had totally lumped MCR in with them, so when I first heard MCR, I was shocked as hell, and then very sorry I'd waited so long to check them out. Hee!

I don't know if it's some kind of Gary Stu thing or if all the writers are just in love with him or what, but it never ceases to amuse me.

I think it's some combination of the two? Because Robin was originally created to be an in for kids, I guess? But since he's been around since the beginning (or near enough for govt work), he's not really deforming the narrative - he's just always been that awesome. And of course, he actually is that awesome, so nobody* resents him.

*I imagine there are probably people (by which I mean actual people, not characters in the DCU) who don't like him?? but they are not people I'm interested in knowing.

HEE. IKR? I feel the same way; anyone who dislikes Dick Grayson is probably not someone who shares my values, is all I'm saying. But I agree, I think that's a pretty short list of people--he is the audience insert character who grew up to do great things, so I can see why most readers would find that compelling. In addition to the comic relief, and the hugs, and all the other awesome things about him. (And even his ginormous mountain of self-doubt, which is certainly relatable for a lot of people! Aww, Dick. *pets him*)

I have talked to two separate dudes who dislike Dick Grayson! I don't actually remember their reasoning though because my mind was so totally blown by the concept.

I'm generally of the belief that Pete Wentz is the EXACT OPPOSITE of Gerard Way. Which is what makes that Pete-and-Mikey friendship (or WHATEVER it is/was), so fascinating? IDK. I think Gerard speaks more because he's got all these IMPORTANT (to him/ to us/ to the world) things to say, and Pete speaks because he's terrified that no one will listen.

ALSO, OMG, HI. SEEING GERARD TONIGHT AND PETE TOMORROW AND THEN ALL THE FANGIRLS AND GERARD AGAIN ON SUNDAY. EXITE. I AM IT.

That's an interesting assessment, about Pete and Gerard! Huh. (And I wish Pete well, of course--and I know you love him!--he's just not really for me, fannishly speaking.)

YOU ARE ABOUT TO START THE MOST AWESOME WEEKEND. YOU MUST TELL ME ALL THE THINGS. OMG. *BOUNCEBOUNCEBOUNCE*

OMG MCR. I've just been reading your previous posts, and your glee over them is making me so happy. And you get to see them! Soooon! That is going to be AWESOME, I have a sneaking suspicion they put on a pretty good show. Y'know, maybe. Also, heeee, your work-friends are hilarious.

Happy Opening Day! \o/ I think the way the schedules work out, the obvious solution is cake and baseball followed directly by beer and hot dogs and baseball. That is a lot of food and a lot of baseball, but I think we could manage it. ♥

I assume that Z has already attempted to pimp you into MCR, but in case she hasn't, I AM AVAILABLE. JSYK! Ahem.

And your baseball plan sounds excellent! Man. HOW AWESOME WOULD THAT BE? Someday, my friend. ♥

Z has already successfully pimped me into MCR, yes! They've never really taken over my fannish brain completely, but I've been over here quietly adoring them in the background. Add 'em to the list of things we need to watch clips of and flail over next time we're all together. ♥

Wow, so the Twins just got their asses handed to them in Toronto. At least it was there? It's hard to stay mad at Canada. Um... Go Mariners!
