Gah, where did my weekend go?!

I know where Saturday night went, at least: I had ridiculously delicious dinner with zabira at Kushibar, and THEN I had a Nutella mocha (which is a diabolically genius invention), and then we headed over to the Crocodile Café to see a rock show. So, the backstory here is this: a couple of months back, I read an article in ( Read more... )

hi, ILU. that was an AMAZING evening and i'm SO GLAD i got to share it with you.

just for the record, there was no awkward about the ACTUAL interaction between the two of you that i could see. he seemed SUPER happy to see you, AS HE SHOULD BE IF HE HAS HALF A BRAIN CUZ YOU'RE AWESOME AND GORGEOUS BESIDES.

he's adorable, but he's a musician dork, and we're just different KINDS of dork.

ION: BAND OF MY HEART. COMING TO A THEATER NEAR YOU. CANNOT DEEEEEEEEEAL.

*tacklesmish* I LOVE sharing this stuff with you--I was just thinking that this morning, actually. YAY. ILU.

And THANK YOU for your perspective/encouragement about my weirdness. I am LAUGHING at myself, SERIOUSLY. It will be fine, and I'm fine now, I just needed to think it through a little. In retrospect, the whole thing just caught me off-guard--the unexpected hotness, the "we should hang out" part (which honestly never occurred to me; I hadn't really thought past "hey, Jimmy has a band! I like bands. I like Jimmy. We should go!" you know?), and he was all tired and distracted by his gear and I was SUPER hyped from the show and so the next day I was kind of like, "Wait, what just happened?" Hee. But anyway. IT'S COOL. And thank you. ♥ (And you're right, musician dorkery is not any less dorky than any other kind of dorkery. I just get distracted by my rock band fetish, HAVE YOU NOTICED? Hee.)

SPEAKING OF WHICH: MCR. GET IN MY CITY. LET'S DO THIS.

TRUST ME, I FEEL YOU ON THE ROCK BAND FETISH. ♥

that said, i was thinking about this vis-a-vis my OTHER crush. people who are serious about music in ANY way are NERDS of the highest order. these are folks who spend a lot of their time in very repetitive practice, who collect esoteric gear and who probably also do a lot of writing. it's romantic to us, partially because our culture places it at a higher premium than other kinds of geekery. i mean, there IS another component to that, which is that musicians put themselves on the line emotionally for the rest of us and CAN lead us to transcendent experiences, WHICH. that's not trivial. STILL. DORKS.

STILL. DORKS.

YES. VERY TRUE. And I think that even this:

musicians put themselves on the line emotionally for the rest of us and CAN lead us to transcendent experiences

has some interesting dimensions because it's a little bit like what Sal talks about with teachers and learners, where you have a crush on your teacher but it's not about them, really, it's that they're the catalyst for new perspectives opening up inside you, and that's the exciting part, but it gets placed on the teacher because they're the external representative of that. It can be similar with music, I think, because music does tap into deep emotions, so you feel a strong connection with the musician even though it's not really about them, it's about you. Like me flailing with love/lust when Ray Toro plays these riffs, because they make me so happy and he is making that happen and I love him so much for that. Hee. Not to take anything away from what the musicians are putting into it, of course, emotionally and technically--awesome art is awesome art, and that's ( ... )

So, BELATEDLY comment spamming you...

now that I've actually WATCHED the play alike competence porn gear video, I'd just like to point out that Frank has been taught (or is self-taught?) to play guitar LIKE A GIRL. That legs puller up and crossed at the knee thing is specifically something they tell female guitar players to do so they can compensate for the fact that the floor is TOO FAR in most chairs and bring the strings up under your right hand and extend the reach on your left (all VALID), AND to keep your breasts from getting flopped over the top of the instrument (I'm not sure this is useful for FRANK, but it's amusing to note)

So, mainly, I LOVE that he has no obvious ISSUES with being a pretty punk lesbian guitar goddess?

(Also, as much as I LOVE that he's designing a PETITE GUITAR for small people who want to ROCK, I think I'm going to end up adopting the biggest, curviest archtop that I can still get my right arm around....)
