Whoa. Harry at AICN REALLY REALLY HATED Terminator: Salvation. And the things he says about it make me angry at the movie without even having seen it (which is, incidentally, one of the reasons I'm such a spoiler-phobe--I hate wasting energy on preemptive frustration--but my co-worker has been sending me a steady stream of Terminator links, so I ( Read more... )

I've been seeing some bad buzz surrounding Terminator Salvation. Can it really be that bad?

Well, I'll find out on Friday, but I'm not encouraged by what I've read. Not just that it's getting negative reviews, but the specific negative things that the reviewers seem to be mentioning are things that also seem likely to bug me, so. MMV, but I'm finding it discouraging. (And I had low expectations for the movie in the first place, too, but Harry said it ruined the franchise for him, and I REALLY don't want that to happen to me.)

Holy shit, that's a fantastic little dress! I love things cut to show the curves....which is HARD to find these days. I've never been brave enough to order clothing online...it's annoying enough trying to find the right fit in the stores, I'm sure it would be disastrous doing it via internet.

It's great that you're feeling so good and treating yourself with something nice... ;)

Yeah, ordering things online can always be iffy... that site at least has measurements, which is nice, but it's still hard to tell if the proportions will be right, which is why I was really excited that it actually fit. \o/ And yes, I am probably a bit too good at treating myself. Hee. But this dress was totally worth it.

I generally avoid spoilers too, but I had to look, and I've got to say that it sounds like everything Harry hated about the movie is the exact opposite of everything I loved about the show, so I'm feeling extra bitter right now!

I'm sure your writing isn't broken, though possibly it is sprained and you need to wrap it with an ace bandage, ice it, and keep it elevated for a while.

Yeah, the show really took all the things that were resting in the quiet places in the movies and put them center stage, which was one of the things I really liked about it. But if the movie is all noise, and doesn't have any of those quiet places at all to balance it out, then I'm going to be really disappointed. Not surprised, but disappointed. (Plus, I love John, and I really am not looking forward to an entirely flat and humorless portrayal of him.)

And yes, maybe my writing just needs some TLC (and/or tequila). It's just hard to find the time, and I still fail at writing in short bursts, and... yadda yadda. But I miss it! And that is frustrating.

I think that at this point, Major Motion Pictures are so risk-averse that you're lucky to get an accidental splash of soul in them. I am apprehensive myself for what that means in the Terminator franchise, especially since the show did such a good job of highlighting the emotional stakes.

It's just hard to find the time, and I still fail at writing in short bursts, and... yadda yadda. But I miss it! And that is frustrating.

SCHEDULE IT! Block it out. And maybe that means it won't happen often, but if treating it like a chore is what it takes, do it. Says someone who is crappy at taking her own advice.

BTW, I am so enchanted with all of the dresses at the site you linked! I wish I could justify a purchase, but at this point, having gone through my own weight loss, I have to focus on work clothes, since none of the clothes I bought after the inital weight loss fit me and I don't even have decent work pants. ARGH!

I plan to just ignore whatever I don't like about the movie (up to and including the entire movie), so I don't think the franchise will be ruined for me. But it still sucks that it's a great concept and once it's been done badly, it can't really be undone. GEORGE LUCAS. ahem.

And you are wise, re: the writing, as always. (And hey, you've written like nine billion words this year, I bow to you!) Maybe I will try the scheduling thing; that might help me focus, too.

And aren't those dresses awesome? I'm still planning to lose some weight, so I'm having to restrain myself from buying about five more of their styles right now, but I will definitely be going back there at some point. I must have a swing dress, if nothing else. And the famous Linea Paolo Pumps of Pain are the perfect accompaniment, too. (Though: you lost more weight? You can still be seen from the side, right? *feeds you chocolate*)

I, too, would do you in that dress. But I think you're hot first thing in the morning in a t-shirt and shorts, so there's that.

EEEE! That picture! *clutches Ben Browder to me, then shares him with you*

I hear you re the writing, but I'm sure it's not borked. It's maybe taking a mid-season hiatus and will be back when the audience least expect it. (Are you owned by Fox?)

Also? ILU.

*MWAH* I think you are hot first thing in the morning, too. Even when you are trying to smother me!

Ben Fucking Browder, man. I have to tell you, if Ben Browder and Hugh Dillon walked into the room, I would honestly not know which way to go. Of course, I would be saved the decision by the fact that I would be dead, but still. Ben Fucking Browder. He and Claudia Black are monopolizing a truly unfair amount of the world's awesome.

Are you owned by Fox?

*dies* Man, I hope not, because then I will be cancelled if I'm good, and know that I suck if I'm not cancelled. Fail!

ILU VERY VERY MUCH. And I am very very excited for your Big Bang!

How sad that I knew which video that would be as soon as I saw "Blake McGrath vid". It was extraordinarily well done, no lie! And the first comment appears to either be Blake or someone pretending to be Blake, as it's from someone called blazius and says "my god! So flattered. Amazing video!" And it's linked on his official Myspace.

BEN AND CLAUDIA HUGS!

I did not even notice that comment! And it's linked on his MySpace! Awww, BLAKE. <3 (I just. I love Blake, he can just be SUCH AN ASS sometimes. Yet at the same time I think that the assiness comes from the fear of being disliked/rejected, and I empathize and it is possible that in the course of writing lies about him I have perhaps come to identify with that aspect of his personality a bit too much, but that also does not excuse the assiness in any way, and it makes it that much harder to watch, because it totally trips my embarrassment squick on his behalf. Just. Blake! You're awesome! You don't have to try so hard! Then I watch him being UNBELIEVABLY sweet and generous to Allie and Natalli and Miles in the SYTYCanadaD finals, and I feel better ( ... )

God, he is so beautiful when he's dancing. BLAAAAKE. I think I like the Radar vid more, because I like vids that are edited more to the beat (even if it's a psycho beat like Radar), but still. Blaaaaake.

I have not yet watched S1, so I haven't been exposed to his assiness firsthand, but I could definitely buy him being insecure. I like that he seemed to have come into his own by the time SYTYCD Canada rolled around. He was a great judge and choreographer and so sweet to our kids. (Hahahaha, and now I am having flashbacks to Nico and Arassay doing his choreography and Arassay being all "I broke Nico's nose and I hurt him! I'm sorry, Nico!") (Also, lies, you say? *Perks up*)

Ben and Claudia should only take roles in which they get to mack on each other for the rest of their lives. True story.

ETA: Sorry for all the edits. I am a spaz.

YES. Beautiful is the perfect word. And S1 is... well, it's a drama-rama (and Blake is sort of at the center of all of that), and some of the dancing is kind of painful in the beginning especially, but there are a few great moments. (Not least of which is Blake's solo, omfg.) All in all, though, I'm REALLY glad the show has shifted its focus to the actual dancing, rather than trying to play up conflict between the dancers.

You're right, though, Blake seems much more settled in himself these days, which really makes me happy. And I do LOVE his choreography (injuries aside! *g*). I read he's going to be back for the next Canadian season, so I'm psyched about that! If for no other reason than to see what he wears. HEE. <3

HEE. I feel like the edit function is sort of a blessing and a curse--it's very nice sometimes, but it also makes it VERY difficult to resist the urge to tweak things, which can get out of hand. *g*

Lies here, here, and here, but no pressure!
