The Supersuckers also have what they refer to as the "patented fake encore", "You pretend to cheer... we pretend to leave... everyone acts suprised when we play some more songs."

why some bands

Do you mean "why some really popular bands", as opposed to "bands who are unsure if the crowd wants to go home or not"?

If not, then I'm not following. :)
