Fic: Winds Blowing Chill

Right. I've been writing while away, and ended up with something much longer than I expected (thank you, slow trains). This comes with a big flashing warning. It is baby fic, and nothing but baby fic. Spuffy babyfic at that. It's the story of how Annie came to exist, and there's almost no supernatural in this. It *does* have some Illyria&Buffy ( Read more... )

I think this was great. A little fluffy? But not really. I mean, there are very realistic angsty issues and you don't dodge them. Knew Spike would come through like a champ, though. :)

Oh, I'd definitely call it fluffy! Just not sickly, I hope. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Aww! *claps hands* This was understated and adorable and just a wee bit angsty and I enjoyed it very much. I loved Illyria-as-guidance-counselor, and Wesley maybe possibly being flattered, and Spike fumbling around and trying and finally finding that maybe it wouldn't all be quite as impossible as he'd feared. And I love the talk he had with Annie at the end. Awwwww.

Also, I just really enjoyed the voice. I find Buffy a difficult character to write and I'm generally opposed to first person fic, but this works quite well on both accounts, I think. And the conversations she had with everyone were just perfect, and...

Yeah. Babyfic: the not-so-secret way to snickfic's heart.

Yay! Sometimes babyfic is the way to go. And I love this verse, obviously, so playing with the characters is *fun*.

Thanks especially for your comments on voice; I'm not great at Buffy either, and first person was a risk, so I'm glad it came off, pretty much.

Oh! I forgot to say that I also loved the fact that you didn't just gave him the ablity to get a woman pregnant since he obviously can not.
Great work on that!

*g* I've read some great stories which pull it off, somehow - time travel, shanshu, whole new species. But I couldn't think of a new take on any of them. Having kids that actually aren't Spike's genetically seemed like the radical option! Glad it worked for you.

Corisande

Oh man! I had visions of people nicknaming the baby "Cor" and it gave me the shivers, what with all the recent discussion of bad dialect and all.

3) Talk to Spike
4) Stand back...

Oh yeah. He is actually surprisingly sanguine for a guy who never is about anything. (I'm glad we got his perspective first, or this might've been more of a nail-biter.) I love that Buffy can interpret him (he didn't say no) and also her creative interpretations of Wes' statements.

Wonderful look at Buffybrain during an particularly fraught time. Illyria's observation that it is universal made it even more wonderful.

I wonder if Illyria can suss out the Wes connection? And what is it that turns her nose pink? Tsk. None of my business...

This is the second time Illyria has been recognized for her guidance counselor aptitude! Third, if you count her revelations to Dawn. It's a thing!

But the baby kept on growing, which felt like hope and pressure and fear all at once.Yep. With the first one, you've committed to the unknown. Freaky ( ... )

Ugh, I know. "Cor, come over 'ere!" "Cor, what did you do that for, pet?" It was that or Oenone, which no one can even pronounce.

Oh, I think Illyria knows. All (well, some) will be revealed if I write the next bit I'm considering. Probably not precisely what turns her nose, though. Some things are private. /prim.

Illyria's actually pretty good at cutting through to the important stuff. She's just not always that hot about recognising that, say, other people matter.
