Since my partner was out of town for the day, I decided to bow to LJ peer pressure and took in the movie "Superbad". It was, for me, a bad choice

I think the movie at least made a point to say that there were limits to that much youthful indiscrection. The Adam character was leaving to go to Darmouth and that was viewed as a positive thing by the other kids. Also, the film is pretty strong on the idea that having sex while drunk is very bad, just as hoping to get the girls drunk is a bad thing to do. In one case, the guy fights his dick and does not have sex with the girl even though she is literally begging for it (something she apologizes for, btw.) The other has a girl who doesn't drink at all; she is also depicted as the cool, hip girl.
But you are right, the premise remains that HSchoolers drink all the time and want to get laid. At least in this film, the college-age guys getting drunk/stoned played like musclebound idiots, and in the end, the main characters made smart decisions in regards to drinking and sex.
I will say that during my college/HS life, being able to get booze was definitely something that gave you social cache. The film doesn't lie about that.
Though I haven't seen the movie, yours is a perceptive review. Sometimes it's interesting to see something through the eyes of folks whose view of the world is very different than ours ... but if that view seems narrow to the point of non-connection, there's not much value in the experience

We saw "Death at a Funeral" a few weeks back. You're tipped off that this is a comedy during the title sequence, which tracks the course of the hearse to the site of the funeral. At one point, the hearse has to backtrack, as it's taken a wrong turn. The first few scenes struck me as a bit stiff and awkward, but once everyone arrives at the country estate, things take off in often absurd directions.
