Review: DiceBook 1.0

Disclaimers: First things first. This app is the work of my long-time friend David Dunham, whom I think highly of, and who is in fact the one who's making it possible for me to have an iPad right now to review it on. I trust that you will find this review fair and honest, but it's not like I'm J. Random Bystander this time around ( Read more... )

Since I've spent quite a bit of time creating dice rollers for both WODs in as comprehensive a fashion as I can, I sent David an email wondering if having a look at my code might be of benefit. I'm not sure how well it would translate.

While I'm thinking about my dice rollers, elegant segue, I'd also like to repeat my invitation from several months back to swing by Dark Providence (nWOD) or Requiem of Dreams (oWOD) if you're interested in doing some online gaming. (:

Mmm. You hit a couple of points I didn't notice in my own review. Interesting.

One of the things I liked about it, that you didn't seem to touch on so much, is that it works great as an ordinary everyday PDF reader for people who don't care about rolling dice, too. It isn't sluggish in turning the page even when dealing with a 160-megabyte bloatmonster.

That completely slipped my mind at the time, but you're absolutely right.

Hmmm.

This is an iPad specific app, or can it work on an iPhone also?

iPad only. David sounded a little boggled that anyone would try to read complex PDFs on an iPhone, but allowed as how iOS 4 might make some interoperability easier.

Heh. I use Goodreader to read all my WoD PDFs on my iPhone when I'm at LARPs and such; makes it easy to flip back and forth between pages of powers and stuff. But I digress; at least it's good to know before I go to buy the app.

LARPing! Didn't even think about that, but it makes a lot of sense.
