Polls are their own justification

This cosplayer is so hard-core awesome I want to have her babies. (via boingboing)

I conducted an inventory of books I have bought and then not gotten around to reading, because I was distracted by other things/books, and the pile is about twenty inches high at this point. So:

Poll I will probably even submit to this poll's ruling! This is obviously not the entire inventory, just a set which I ( Read more... )

I just had to vote for the Slave Trade one, I mean, it is one of my kinks. Though the cover of the Sky Pirates one looks intriguing too.

And that costume is truly awesome. A cool idea really goes a long way.

It is! It's a really cool concept, executed fairly well.

The Slave Trade one really seems id-tastic, from the entire half-chapter I managed to read.

Having read that Amazon excerpt of Slave Trade, I want to take the concept, unleash my own id upon it, and write it properly. Something that idtastic can be justified by decent writing, but that detail-devoid, unatmospheric, jumping-about-in-time excerpt was not it.

I admit, I've tried to read it once already, and if I end up having to read it, there might be a certain amount of skimming. I have no recollection of putting it on my bookmooch wishlist, but I put all sorts of shit on that wishlist, if I see it mentioned casually somewhere and am curious, so I honestly might have.

So THAT's the Slayer of Cookie Monster! It's nice to have a link to her identity and blog, after seeing that picture all over.

I'm not actually sure that Flickr stream is hers; it might just be the photographer. But she absolutely deserves recognition.

I haven't even read Piper's Little Fuzzy, although I know it's the one of his you're supposed to read if you read one of his. But seriously, Space Viking. SPACE VIKING.

See, this is how I end up with a foot and a half stack of somewhat mediocre books.

SPACE VIKING is fucking awesome.

I repeat: fucking awesome. You are likely to think it is batshit insane and would probably like Piper's LORD KALVAN OF OTHERWHEN better (Rylla of Hostigos! Pipe-smoking, ass-kicking warrior princess!), but SPACE VIKING has some brilliant stuff. The hero blithely chucks his morality out the window to get the revenge he hungers for, and Piper has some terrific scenes dealing with that.

The weirdest part of the book: it came out a couple years before STAR TREK, and prominently features a spaceship named the "Enterprise."
