Bruce says, "Tim, the rat had better be dead," without turning to look.
"Didn't get one," says Tim, breathlessly, and scurries up behind Bruce, taking acknowledgement as permission.
Death by INCREDIBLE CUTE. I -- oh, *wow*, Betty, this is just what I wanted. It's this dark and creepy and painful world, but they're an army and a family and also --
Next to him, Bruce hisses in a breath, and Tim really doesn't want to have to shoot Rich, but he figures if Bruce takes the intruder and Barb, that means he has to take Rich. Tim aims for central mass, because he really doesn't want to screw it up.
There was a bit about how Tim is keeping rat ears to make a gruesome and TOTALLY AWESOME necklace that didn't make the cut.
AWWWWWWWwwwwaaaiieeek. *pats Timmy* Honestly, he sounded *exactly* like a toon!Tim who had, all things considered, a fairly *healthy* home life in a world fucked beyond all recognition. It takes a resistance to raise a child!
That was the part that made me flail, too! Because this is wee!Timmy, and guns, and it's Rich, not Dick, and... *flails*
Also, Bruce asking if she had flinched, together with Barbara's response, are the best things in the history of ever. Tells you what world they live in, and it's also intrinsically them anyway.
Yes, I really do think that's information any Bruce would be interested in, you know? But this is a Bruce who's using that information to make a decision the familiar Bruce would never let himself have to make.
Thanks. It really struck me, watching it again, that here's a Batman that uses guns, and that's got to mean… well. It's not a Batman who aims to wound, you know? Especially not with those monsters he was waving around.
Yes yes yes yes a thousand times YES! EVER since I saw that JLU moment I've wanted the story that went with it; I considered writing it, but I'm glad I didn't, since this is about a kajillion times more perfect, down to the rats.
I was really glad Te was born before, but I'm even gladder now that you posted this for her birthday. *grin*
I sort of wish I'd integrated this with my other Savage Time story, but I don't think they could really live together. Also! um. I do not let unoriginality deter me, so you know, you would have been safe. Thanks!
I'm not sure why I decided that in some universe poor Dick would have a better nickname, but uh. In my brain it made sense. Also, yes. Timmy. LIKE A CAT.
I feel Dick is a very excellent nickname for him, because everyone who looks at him thinks, 'wow, I'm really in the mood for some dick now' and it totally fits.

Because Bruce has to protect his city family and what does it mean when it's more than just the four of them?
