Ohhhh, yes. This is so terrifying and it's poignant *because* it's terrifying. Or -- something.

The style allows the reader to sympathize with Bruce, but not *empathize*, which simultaneously reduces the terror and increases the pity, or --

Or maybe it's the other way around, there. I dunno. I think I've spent too much time *just* lately trying to get even closer than normal to the characters to think like a person.

In short: YAY FIC.

It's so much easier to be sympathetic to Bruce when he was younger, before he hated himself so much. Young, full of hope, hadn't sacrificed people to his principles yet, or at least no one but himself.

Wow. I love Bruce here. Love, crave, desperately want to know more of. Perhaps more himself than he'd ever be in the future, when he's trapped into his deal with the Bat.

Right now he's a scary guy who has, against all odds, found somebody. I know I shouldn't, but I feel hope.

It could be pure and innocent! It could stay that way. But yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about this Bruce, except I think he'd be more personally tolerable.

It's a nice resolution for them, even if it's so fucked-up. The "just like [me]" line is what really makes it.

I'm sort of trying to take the Bruce I know from comics, and fit him into the relationship comics likes to pretend they're telling us about. Um. Maybe. I think.

Oh. Oh, *boys*. I.

I don't have the brains to review as smart as Te, so I'll tell you instead that reading this my eyes prickled and my throat stung, but I'm smiling a little.

This Bruce and this Dick -- not so much with the sticky and hot. But I wonder... I wonder.

*eyes 'little brother'*

I think it's a happy ending! Or a happy beginning… or something.

I really like what you did with this, and you certainly did it in full-on Creepy Gen style. Thank you for taking an idea that could've been anything *but* gen and making it something that improves some of the freakiest canon ever.

Thanks! I was worried I might have de-freakied it, by accident, but that doesn't seem to have happened.
