Oh, my lord, John Updike. I was reading the Rabbit books when I had my first true revelation that I DID NOT WANT TO READ ANY MORE BOOKS ABOUT THE PAIN OF BEING A MAN. My attempts to add to my technically literary reading ended there. I suppose I should be grateful.
