Finally

I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. And I even got new icons to celebrate!

I actually read this one straight through, since I hadn't even gone for a speed time on an HP book before. I started at about 11 PM and I finished at around 5:10AM...so it took me a little under 6 hours and 15 minutes.

Now, as to what I thought about it. Cut for spoilers. )

The upside (imo) to the epilogue: It sets us up for a Rose/Scorpius relationship so beautifully that it seems to almost be canon AND as a fan ficcer I like that I have these almost clean slates I get to play with (goes for the other kids as well). True, some have commented that one might just play with OCs instead, but they aren't OCs, they are canon children of canon characters that we most certainly do know, making it an interesting exercise. I certainly can't wait to finish my current two pending projects so I can try writing some next gen. :)

That's a good point, too. I'll have to check on some of the next gen fan fic and see how people flesh them out. You almost have to wonder if Rose/Scorpius was JKR's nod to Draco/Hermione shippers.

Still, it's a little disappointing that the entire wrap up for the series was "And they all lived happily ever after and sent their kids to Hogwarts." Of course, this probably comes from the fact that some of my favorite fan fic deals with post-Hogwarts years where the characters actually grow into their own.

I did come across a great fan fic line, though. I was trying to see what Snape/Harry writers did with the ending and found this:

"Ah, yes. Neville Longbottom, hero of the hour. I confess I did him an injustice - apparently he is capable of recognising a sword if you hit him over the head with it hard enough."

Now I can start digging around for more fan fic. After I study.

It might have been. I heard that it's actually the biggest fanon het ship. It surprised me, but someone went to a bunch of the biggest archives (that accept all pairings) and tallied the numbers (although, naturally, there must have been some overlap).

I don't know many next gen writers, but drcjsnider is a next gen shipper/writer and she likes to rec stuff, and there are recs on crack_broom as well. :) I think I also joined a fest comm for them if you want the link (didn't really check it out, just joined). I think I pretty much rely on my established rep to get people to read my next gen fic when I get to that point. XD

But have fun studying first. ;)

That does make sense. I think that there were a lot of Harry/Hermione shippers for a while, but that more or less died out. I never really saw it the pairing, but...

Draco/Hermione, on the other hand.... I think that there's a lot of do with that pairing.

I'll have to check that out. I have to admit, I'm a little curious.

Also, out of curiousity, do you know anything about the hogwarts_elite community? It looks sort of interesting and I filled out an application, but I'm not sure whether to actually join and post it or not.

I'm sorry you weren't impressed, haha.

You need an icon for like "BrooKiki does not approve!" or something. That'd be hilarious.XD

But, I've been thinking more often than not recently, and I'll probably grab the books I'm missing over summer break, and finish too.:)
